New Rules to Improve Job Opportunities for Individuals with Disabilities (Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act) and Protected Veterans (VEVRAA) Published |
The U.S. Department of Labor announced on September 24, 2013 that the Federal Register published two final rules to improve hiring and employment of veterans and individuals with disabilities. Both Rules become effective on March 24, 2014.
Federal contractors and subcontractors will be required to comply with most of the requirements of the new rules by the March 24th date. However, the rules give contractors additional time to comply with requirements in subpart C, which relates to affirmative action programs (AAPs). Contractors with AAPs in place on March 24th may maintain them until the end of their current AAP year, allowing them to delay compliance with the affirmative action requirements of the new rules until the start of their next AAP year.
