Bulky & laceweight cashmere blends for luxurious Fall knitting!

(L) Prabal Gurung Fall 2014 Runway, (R) Katia Pullover in SUPERIOR & NIRVANA

The Fall 2014 runways displayed a trend that every knitter should be quick to latch on to, as it seems tailor-made for the handmade set! Designers like Prabal Gurun (above left) featured pullovers with a multi-textural vibe for a new take on this and last season's blocking trend. You don't have to just block with color anymore--block with all your favorite stitch patterns!

Edun's Fall 2014 runway show did it with ribbing, seed stitch, garter stitch, stockinette, and more, while Tommy Hilfiger combined colorblocking and cable blocking, and Christopher Kane matched cables to ruffled pleats and ribbing. Our contribution to the trend tones down the gorgeous but oft-unwearable looks of the runway with a simple combination of stockinette and reverse stockinette. The Katia Pullover (above right) is made even more elegant through the use of SUPERIOR and NIRVANA, creating a cashmere/silk/merino blend that is beautifully chic, soft, and feminine. With Fall already settling into New York City, the time is nigh for cashmere blends to once again take center stage in your knitting, and affordable yarns like laceweight SUPERIOR (which, when knitted with laceweight extrafine merino wool NIRVANA, creates a faster-knit, sport- to DK-weight yarn) and bulky-weight MOONLIGHT.

SUPERIOR and NIRVANA have always been the best of fiber friends--you will often see them paired together in patterns, and rightfully so. Both laceweight yarns, they offer a multitude of color options with 37 colors in SUPERIOR and 49 colors in NIRVANA. Available in coordinating colorways, knitters have the opportunity to exactly match their colors or go lighter or darker in either yarn for a hint of contrast and pop of color vibrancy. A little goes a long way, too, with both yarns supplying ample yardage--what's better than a high-quality, affordable cashmere knit?

MOONLIGHT offers the impatient knitter an alternative to the lace-to-sportweight cashmere knitting projects. A bulky-weight cashmere/silk/merino blend, MOONLIGHT is like the big sister to SUPERIOR, except with a lofty, chainette construction. The central silk fiber gives MOONLIGHT the same "inner glow" seen in SUPERIOR, and knit on US size 10.5-11 needles it's the perfect cashmere yarn for upcoming gift knitting... did we mention it's only 83 days to Hannukah and 91 days to Christmas?

Fashions in SUPERIORNIRVANA& MOONLIGHT

The Pamela Cardigan in SUPERIOR and NIRVANA is featured in this year's Paparazzi Collection, and plays with the vintage silhouette propelled by popular cable TV series like Mad Men and Masters of Sex.
Elongated ribbing highlights and slims the waist, while the ever-popular chevron makes an appearance in a simple yet elegant lace pattern. The Pamela Cardigan is well-suited for a pencil skirt and pussy-bow blouse office outfit, as well as a casual patterned midi skirt and low-cut tee.
Both the La Scala Vest in MOONLIGHT and the Duomo Pullover in SUPERIOR & NIRVANA were highlights of last year's Tutto Bene Collection, but as with most things Filatura di Crosa they remain timelessly fashionable and chic. Worked all in one piece, the La Scala Vest plays to MOONLIGHT's buoyant chainette construction with wide ribbing that amplifies the loftiness of the yarn. The Duomo Pullover holds SUPERIOR and NIRVANA together for an always-in-style, easily worked stripe sequence. The Duomo Pullover is lightweight and next-to-skin soft, making it perfect for the early cool days of Fall and great for layering as the temperatures drop.

SUPERIOR and NIRVANA have given us so many fantastic looks through the season, it was high time we compiled some of their best looks into a convenient Lookbook. Featuring both downloadable free and e-Patterns, knitters can choose from 9 garments and accessories that include cardigans, tops, shawls, shrugs, and jackets. Cowls show no sign of diminishing in popularity, and for good reason. Quick, portable projects that enable knitters to test out both yarns and stitch patterns, a good cowl functions as both knitter's palette and fabulous accessory.
The Simona Cowl
(above left) needs only one ball each of SUPERIOR and NIRVANA and knits up quickly on US size 8 needles--if you've never worked with SUPERIOR and NIRVANA before, it's a great introduction to how well they pair together and to feel the sinfully soft, decadent fabric they create.
The Anastasia Cowl (above right) uses two balls of MOONLIGHT in contrasting colors and double moss stitch, and is knitted flat and joined together with a single twist to show off the reversible nature of the fabric. Knit on US size 15 needles, the Anastasia Cowl is a fast, elegant knit, perfect for a quick Fall accessory or Winter gift.
