Stripes have been in fashion for quite a while now--in fact, we'd venture to say they never quite go away, but continue to be reimagined for the modern age. This season, we tried to think beyond the idea of stripes. Once deconstructed, stripes become lines, and lines can function outside the horizontal and vertical plane and reform in interesting, geometric, and even architectural ways. We gleaned some great fashion ideas for Spring 2014 from the concept of exploring lines--knitters can peruse our Line-Up mood board on Pinterest to see some of our source inspirations. The Max Mara tee (seen above left) is a fantastic example of reimagining the common stripe; uniform breaks in the stripe pattern create an elongated dotted line effect. The look directly inspired the Alessa Tank in PORTOFINO, which also takes some waist-slimming inspiration from the recent trend of slightly off-kilter stripes, as seen in the fashion featured in Janelle Monae's Q.U.E.E.N music video and in this striped pullover from Stella McCartney

Inspired by all these great fashion sources, a staccato of broken lines dot the center panel of the Alessa Tank and slimming horizontal lines strategically stripe the waist. The main background of the Alessa Tank is knit in tweedy PORTOFINO, with the solid dots and lines knit in BRILLA. Both yarns are cotton blends, creating a fabulous warm-weather garment with great drape and style.

PORTOFINO is everything you want from a Spring and Summer yarn--a worsted weight mix of cotton and viscose, PORTOFINO features a subtle multicolor tweed effect. Colorways shift softly for an elegant take on multicolor knitting; the neutral black, white, and gray of the Alessa Tank never overpower the work of solid black BRILLA, and the golden tones of the Silvia Pullover (seen below) remain elegantly muted, perfect for Spring.
A mix of cotton and viscose give PORTOFINO beautiful drape and softness--it's a great yarn for relaxed pullovers, warm-weather shawls and accessories, and light tanks and tees, and it's crisp stitch definition and understated multicolor tweed effect make it perfect for colorwork and interesting stitch patterns.
PORTOFINO Fashion

The Silvia Pullover features set-in sleeves in a simple lace pattern that almost look like ears of wheat (and interestingly, the color of PORTOFINO used is wheat!). Easy to memorize and with both back and front knit in stockinette stitch, the Silvia Pullover is a fast Spring knit with lovely, figure-flattering drape. Beginning lace knitters won't be overwhelmed by the pattern stitches, and experts will be pleased to knit something so easy to wear and carry from this season into the next.
