Cathedral Reminders
Weekly Updates from Christ Church Cathedral in Lexington, Kentucky

June 12, 2016 - Fourth Sunday after Pentecost
Find Your Soul Purpose at Christ Church Cathedral

No matter who you are, or where you are on your spiritual journey you are welcome at Christ Church Cathedral.

Christ Church Cathedral serves a unique ministry in the heart of Lexington. We are a people of prayer and action, eager to serve those in our community.  We have programs and events for all generations.  Everyone can find a place for involvement and service as we seek to extend God's love made known in Jesus Christ.

The mission of Christ Church Cathedral is to restore all persons to unity with God and one another in Christ Jesus, through prayer, worship, proclamation of the Gospel, and the promotion of Justice, Peace and Love.

God has a dream to heal the world.  Cathedrals are meant to give us a glimpse of that dream, and in so doing, to fortify and inspire us for that life-giving work.

If you would like to know more about the Cathedral, please call Parish Secretary Margaret Christensen at 859-254-4497 or email her here to setup an appointment. Also, visit our website at www.ccclex.org.

We need some volunteers to help staff this booth in one-hour blocks which will be open from 11:00am to 6:00pm. The Pride Festival will be at the new Court House Plaza, 120 North Limestone, only one block from the Cathedral. Help us to carry out our baptismal vow to "...strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being." For more information or to volunteer please contact The Reverend Brent Owens, 254-4497 or bowens@ccclex.org.

Your Prayers Are Requested For Our Adult Pilgrims
Pilgrims from Christ Church Cathedral request your prayers as they prepare for one of the most important Christian pilgrimages, the Camino de Santiago. Dating from the 9th century, the Camino de Santiago (The Way of St James) is a large network of ancient pilgrim routes stretching across Europe.  Walking 10-13 miles per day from Portugal to Spain, the pilgrims' journey of spiritual devotion will culminate at the tomb of St. James (Santiago in Spanish) located in the Cathedral de Santiago, and where they will take part in the Pilgrim's Mass and witness the huge Botafumeiro, the famous thurible that spectacularly swings across the vast expanse of the cathedral's transepts.  Please pray for our pilgrims' journey of sacred encounter and spiritual transformation.

St. Louis Urban Mission Trip, July 12-17
The Cathedral Youth are heading to St. Louis for a week of mission and adventure. Our week will center on our Baptismal Covenant as we seek to live into the fellowship our Apostles taught us: serve others and celebrate resurrection. Open to rising 7th - 12th graders. The cost is $400 (scholarships available). For more info and to sign up visit http://bit.ly/1Q33A2B.

City Reach & Global Impact

Christ Community Cupboard Diaper Drive, May 8 - June 19
The Cupboard is in great need of diapers. Each month the Cupboard distributes over 50 packages of diapers to families in need. We are having a Diaper Drive May 8 - June 19 to help with this need! Please donate packages of diapers sizes 2 & 3 and place them in the Cupboard diaper bins in the Great Hall and near the Welcome Center, or provide a financial donation in the collection plate on Sundays with "Cupboard Diaper Drive" in the memo line.

Christ Community Cupboard Needs Your Help!
The Cupboard is a mission of Christ Church Cathedral which provides household and personal hygiene products as well as clothing to clients in need who are referred by Family Resource Centers and social workers. Several volunteer jobs are open: 1) ordering supplies; 2) checking in supplies; 3) picking up supplies; 4) inventory control; 5) stocking shelves. This is a great opportunity for high school students in need of community service hours, and their parents too. You can set your own schedule. Please contact Kathleen Imhoff for more details, 859-509-4092 or kathleenrtimhoff@gmail.com.

Reading Camp Donations Needed
Reading Camp will kick off for the summer on Monday, June 13. Director Sara Harcourt Watts reports that plans are well under way, although they would welcome donations of some items to be dropped off at Mission House. These include new or gently used sleeping bags, insect repellent, socks for girls and boys, chap stick, new flip flops, sunscreen, and individual bags of chips. The Olympics are the theme for this year's camp, so books about the Olympics and athletes would also be enjoyed. The camps would welcome more teenage volunteers to help with non-academic activities. Please drop donations at Mission House.
