Cathedral Reminders
Weekly Updates from Christ Church Cathedral in Lexington, Kentucky

June 5, 2016 - Third Sunday after Pentecost
Find Your Soul Purpose at Christ Church Cathedral

No matter who you are, or where you are on your spiritual journey you are welcome at Christ Church Cathedral.

Christ Church Cathedral serves a unique ministry in the heart of Lexington. We are a people of prayer and action, eager to serve those in our community.  We have programs and events for all generations.  Everyone can find a place for involvement and service as we seek to extend God's love made known in Jesus Christ.

The mission of Christ Church Cathedral is to restore all persons to unity with God and one another in Christ Jesus, through prayer, worship, proclamation of the Gospel, and the promotion of Justice, Peace and Love.

God has a dream to heal the world.  Cathedrals are meant to give us a glimpse of that dream, and in so doing, to fortify and inspire us for that life-giving work.

If you would like to know more about the Cathedral, please call Parish Secretary Margaret Christensen at 859-254-4497 or email her here to setup an appointment. Also, visit our website at www.ccclex.org.

Newcomer Blessing
We would like to invite you to attend a special service of blessing newcomers to Christ Church Cathedral on Sunday, June 5 at the 10:00am service. In the course of the service we will affirm and bless all in this year who have come to call this Cathedral their church. This Cathedral needs you, and we in turn are blessed by you being a part of this congregation.

Church Under the Bridge
On Sunday, June 5, Christ Church will host Church Under the Bridge at The Episcopal Diocese of Lexington (Mission House) located at the corner of E Fourth Street and N Martin Luther King Blvd.  Volunteers are needed at Mission House at 2:15pm to set up chairs, make sandwiches, roll silver ware, prepare the buffet table, greet guests, serve the meal and clean up after lunch is over.  Finally, we need 15 dozen cookies, homemade or store bought; either are greatly appreciated. Cookies can be dropped off in the Great Hall before or after the 10:00 service on June 5. This is a great opportunity for us to serve our less fortunate neighbors who are in need of a kind word, a warm smile and a hot meal.
Upcoming Services & Events

Your Prayers Are Requested For Our Adult Pilgrims
Pilgrims from Christ Church Cathedral request your prayers as they prepare for one of the most important Christian pilgrimages, the Camino de Santiago. Dating from the 9th century, the Camino de Santiago (The Way of St James) is a large network of ancient pilgrim routes stretching across Europe.  Walking 10-13 miles per day from Portugal to Spain, the pilgrims' journey of spiritual devotion will culminate at the tomb of St. James (Santiago in Spanish) located in the Cathedral de Santiago, and where they will take part in the Pilgrim's Mass and witness the huge Botafumeiro, the famous thurible that spectacularly swings across the vast expanse of the cathedral's transepts.  Please pray for our pilgrims' journey of sacred encounter and spiritual transformation.

Wednesday Healing Service & Prayers
At our 12:05pm Wednesday healing service, we will faithfully pray by name for all those on our prayer list. You may add someone to our prayer list by calling our Parish Secretary, Margaret Christensen, 254-4497, or emailing mchristensen@ccclex.org.

City Reach & Global Impact

Christ Community Cupboard Diaper Drive, May 8 - June 19
The Cupboard is in great need of diapers. Each month the Cupboard distributes over 50 packages of diapers to families in need. We are having a Diaper Drive May 8 - June 19 to help with this need! Please donate packages of diapers sizes 2 & 3 and place them in the Cupboard diaper bins in the Great Hall and near the Welcome Center, or provide a financial donation in the collection plate on Sundays with "Cupboard Diaper Drive" in the memo line.

Christ Community Cupboard Needs Your Help!
The Cupboard is a mission of Christ Church Cathedral which provides household and personal hygiene products as well as clothing to clients in need who are referred by Family Resource Centers and social workers. Several volunteer jobs are open: 1) ordering supplies; 2) checking in supplies; 3) picking up supplies; 4) inventory control; 5) stocking shelves. This is a great opportunity for high school students in need of community service hours, and their parents too. You can set your own schedule. Please contact Kathleen Imhoff for more details, 859-509-4092 or kathleenrtimhoff@gmail.com.

Reading Camp Donations Needed
Reading Camp will kick off for the summer on Monday, June 13. Director Sara Harcourt Watts reports that plans are well under way, although they would welcome donations of some items, including new or gently used sleeping bags, insect repellent, socks for girls and boys, chap stick, new flip flops, sunscreen, and individual bags of chips. The Olympics are the theme for this year's camp, so books about the Olympics and athletes would also be enjoyed. The camps would welcome more teenage volunteers to help with non-academic activities. Please drop donations at Mission House.

Emergency Assistance Fund
A couple with one child is having financial difficulties as the wife has had to leave work to battle breast cancer. They owe $1100 to LexServe (sewer) and are unable to pay it. Until they can pay it down by at least half, they cannot get on a payment schedule set up by LexServe. If you can help with all or part of this, please make a check payable to Christ Church Cathedral and write EAF (Emergency Assistance Fund) on the memo line. Bless you!
