Find Your Soul Purpose at Christ Church Cathedral

No matter who you are, or where you are on your spiritual journey you are welcome at Christ Church Cathedral.

Christ Church Cathedral serves a unique ministry in the heart of Lexington. We are a people of prayer and action, eager to serve those in our community.  We have programs and events for all generations.  Everyone can find a place for involvement and service as we seek to extend God's love made known in Jesus Christ.

The mission of Christ Church Cathedral is to restore all persons to unity with God and one another in Christ Jesus, through prayer, worship, proclamation of the Gospel, and the promotion of Justice, Peace and Love.

God has a dream to heal the world.  Cathedrals are meant to give us a glimpse of that dream, and in so doing, to fortify and inspire us for that life-giving work.

Teacher & Graduate Recognition

The Cathedral Celebrates 220 years!
Citizens of Lexington have worshipped at Christ Church, the oldest Episcopal Church in the Diocese, since 1796.  The cornerstone of the current building was laid in 1847.  The church was completed in 1848 and was enlarged in 1862 63.  William Morton gave the Market Street land on which the church was built.  Matthew Shryock was the architect and builder of the first church building.  Many prominent Lexingtonians, such as Henry Clay, have worshipped here.   Over the years Christ Church and its members have launched ministries which have grown far beyond its walls, such as Good Samaritan Hospital and the Hope Center.  In a world called to transcend the challenges of culture, race, religion and class,  Christ Church Cathedral invites and welcomes people of all backgrounds and convictions to engage in the work of reconciliation.
