 More ASCs are making the switch to electronic medical records to take advantage of the myriad benefits an electronic system provides to patients, physicians and staff. But making the switch requires more than just a flip of a switch: it requires buy-in from leadership and staff, careful planning and ongoing collaboration between the ASC and its EMR vendor.

There are three stages inherent in the transition to an EMR: before, during and after integration. In this part of the series, we will discuss the second stage, or the series of events that take place from the beginning to the completion of the system's implementation. AmakiSolutions is excited to offer our GI Clients a valuable new tool, through our certification with the GI Quality Improvement Consortium, Ltd. (GIQuIC).

GIQuIC, a joint initiative of the American College of Gastroenterology and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, provides a national registry that GI facilities and physicians can use to benchmark themselves for ten quality indicators. These measures currently include adenoma detection rate, cecal intubation rate with photo documentation, adequacy of bowel prep, withdrawal time, adverse events, history and physical documentation, informed consent, written discharge instructions, ASA score, and proper indications.

AmkaiSolutions clients will be able to join hundreds of other endoscopy centers nationwide in transmitting case data to GIQuIC without disrupting workflow. This will be available to any AmkaiSolutions clients who perform GI procedures and are on AmkaiCharts January 2013 and AmkaiOffice 3.11.4 versions or later.
