........................................................................

The CoAEMSP Board officially adopted the CoAEMSP Interpretations of the 2015 CAAHEP Standards and Guidelines during its summer meeting.

The companion document contains the CAAHEP Standards and Guidelines for the Accreditation of Educational Programs in the Emergency Medical Services Professions with CoAEMSP interpretations adopted by CoAEMSP through policies.

The interpretations are NOT part of the Standards and Guidelines document and are subject to change by CoAEMSP. Policy  revisions may occur often, so this document should be reviewed frequently to ensure the  most current version.

Please refer to the  Standards Interpretations of the 2015 CAAHEP Standards and Guidelines. Questions regarding the interpretations can be directed to the CoAEMSP Executive Office.

An Easier Way to Make a Personnel Change and Add a Key Position!

If your program needs to notify CoAEMSP of a change in key personnel, please review the process found on our website, and review the list of required supporting documentation that may be associated with a change/addition to specific key personnel positions.

CoAEMSP has developed a template letter that may be used for the required signed/dated letter of appointment/acceptance for changes or additions in specific key personnel positions (i.e. Program Director, Medical Director, Associate Medical Director, Assistant Medical Director, or Lead Instructor). The newly developed template letter is also posted on our website. Use of the template is not required; however, the hope is it will be a helpful resource in providing the required supporting personnel documentation.

With the implementation of the 2015 CAAHEP Standards, effective January 1, 2016, programs have the option of identifying the following new key personnel positions (Standard III.B.3, 4, 6):
  1. Associate Medical Director (a physician delegated by the Medical Director to fulfill certain responsibilities)
  2. Assistant Medical Director (physicians required when students are sent out of state for clinical/field internships)
  3. Lead Instructor
Any program wishing to add any of these three (3) new key personnel positions, MUST submit the required personnel documentation outlined on the website for review/approval. These new positions are an addition to our contact records; therefore, to add a new key position, the program must submit the required personnel documentation.

For questions, please contact Lynn Caruthers at 214-703-8445, x115 or lynn@coaemsp.org.
Attrition/Retention--Why Did They Leave?
Student Change Status Form
Education programs across the country are being held more accountable for program outcomes. These typically include pass rates on credentialing examinations, placement of graduates, and attrition/retention of students.

Of these three outcomes, retention of students tends to be the most challenging for programs. The reasons that students leave are many and varied. The CoAEMSP has set the outcomes threshold for retention at 70%. Programs not meeting this threshold for three years are required to submit a Standard Progress Report to the CoAEMSP Quality Improvement Committee and are asked to identify the primary reasons that students leave the course.

To assist in tracking, a sample Change of Status Form is available that identifies academic and non-academic reasons for attrition.  This form is not required but can assist the Program in analyzing attrition and developing a plan of action.
