New Accreditation Workshop Added in Salt Lake City
|
Like a hot rock 'n roll concert that sells out in hours, the June accreditation workshop has already been filled to capacity!
So we've added a new accreditation 2016 workshop October 13 & 14 in Salt Lake City.
This updated accreditation workshop will focus on the new 2015 CAAHEP Standards and the new Self Study Report templates. This workshop is a must for new program directors as well as seasoned program directors!
Because all programs will be transitioning to the new Self Study Reports (SSRs), and more than 200 programs will be going through the accreditation process for the first time, these workshops will serve as an invaluable resource.
Registration will open July 1 for both the October workshop in Salt Lake City, and the December workshop in Dallas.

CoAEMSP is Seeking Two Public Members
|
........................................................................................................................ Staff Contact: George Hatch, george@coaemsp.org or 214-703-8445, x112 ........................................................................................................................
The Committee on Accreditation for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP) has vacancies for two public member positions on its Board of Directors. Public members of the CoAEMSP serve three-year terms, with eligibility for a maximum of three consecutive terms of service. Public members will begin serving immediately following their election (expected to be August 2016). There is no honorarium for these Board positions, although all customary travel expenses associated with the position are reimbursed. The purpose of the CoAEMSP includes: - Functioning as a Committee on Accreditation (CoA) member of the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) to provide accreditation services to educational programs in the EMS professions;
- Conducting the Letter of Review process for educational programs in the EMS professions;
- Monitoring the need for recognition of Paramedic educational programs and/or courses of instruction, and responding to such need; and,
- Educating the public, sponsoring organizations, governmental agencies, healthcare professions, and others about recognition, review and accreditation of programs/courses for the EMS professions.
The public member cannot be: 1) An employee, member of the governing board, owner, or shareholder of, or consultant to the sponsor of a Paramedic program that holds a CoAEMSP Letter of Review (LoR) or is accredited by CAAHEP or one that is in any stage of the LoR/accreditation process for Paramedic; 2) A member of any trade association or membership organization related to, affiliated with, or associated with the CoAEMSP or Paramedic; or 3) A spouse, parent, child, or sibling of an individual identified in (1) or (2) above; or 4) an individual who would be qualified in any other named EMS community of interest (i.e. students, graduates, faculty, sponsor administration, hospital/clinic representatives, physicians, employers, police and fire services, or key governmental officials). The CoAEMSP has 14 sponsoring organizations; each sponsor has two representatives on the CoAEMSP Board of Directors, which constitutes a Board of 28 directors. The addition of two public members would bring the number to a total of 30 and is in accordance with our Bylaws. Interested applicants should submit all required application documentation to Dr. George W. Hatch, Jr, at george@coaemsp.org. Application review will begin immediately and will continue until the positions are filled. The position description and application can be found here. |
Board to Explore Consortium Sponsor Fee
|
At a recent meeting of the CoAEMSP Board of Directors, the board approved a motion to consider assessing a fee to a sponsor that is a consortium. A consortium is a unique sponsorship of a program when two or more members partner together to operate a Paramedic program. According to CAAHEP Standard I.B.: I. Sponsorship B. Consortium Sponsor 1. A consortium sponsor is an entity consisting of two or more members that exists for the purpose of operating an educational program. In such instances, at least one of the members of the consortium must meet the requirements of a sponsoring institution as described in I.A.
2. The responsibilities of each member of the consortium must be clearly documented in a formal affiliation agreement or memorandum of understanding, which includes governance and lines of authority.
|
With all consortium sponsors, additional time is required during the comprehensive review process to review and work with a consortium sponsor to ensure the documented formal affiliation agreement or MoU meets all the components of a consortium. There is no timeline for making the decision. Future updates will be provided via the monthly eUpdate, www.coaemsp.org, and on social media.
