Response to Findings Letter & Progress Reports Due Dec. 1
..........................................................................
Staff Contact: Karen Franks, karen@coaemsp.org; 214-703-8445, x111
..........................................................................
Do you have a progress report due December 1? Have you recently hosted a site visit and have a response to the site visit findings due December 1?

Be sure to submit it as a single PDF document to Karen (karen@coaemsp.org) on or before December 1 to prevent a recommendation for probation or a withhold of accreditation.

The CoAEMSP Board of Directors is charged with reviewing the accreditation records of nearly 100 programs. That means the documentation you have submitted for ONE program is multiplied many times! The staff person receiving the programs' submissions must also collate them for dissemination to the Board. This is a huge task, and we need to be sure we are as efficient and accurate as possible. To ensure ALL of the documentation is received and reviewed, programs MUST:
  • submit a single PDF document
  • submit documentation on time
  • NOT submit embedded documents
  • NOT submit external links
Failure to submit the document as a single PDF document or eliminate all links and embedded files will delay the review of the program's accreditation record. The CoAEMSP Board has found it necessary to take a hard stance on reports submitted after the deadline, in multiple files, or in the wrong format. When reports or responses are not submitted according to the above requirements, they will be considered as "not received" and the Board will NOT review the material; but will continue to make a decision on the program.

TIPS on creating a single PDF.
Advanced Placement Questionnaire Deadline Dec 1
..................................................................

(214) 703-8445 x114
..................................................................

On September 25 the program director of each CAAHEP accredited and CoAEMSP Letter of Review Paramedic program received an email from jennifer@coaemsp.org requesting they complete the Advanced Placement Questionnaire. If you are a program director and did not receive that email, check your quarantine, junk, and spam folders. If you do not have the questionnaire in any of those, email jennifer@coaemsp.org.

According to the CAAHEP Standards and Guidelines for the Accreditation of Educational Programs in the Emergency Medical Services Professions (Standard V.A.2), all programs must have a policy on advanced placement, transfer of credits, and credits for experiential learning.

Advanced placement is any process where a program formally recognizes prior learning of a student and applies that recognition toward meeting the program requirements. Advanced placement is applied on a case-by-case basis and allows a student to "place out" of specified program didactic, laboratory, clinical, or field requirements. This may shorten the time for completion of the program and is often thought of as an alternative pathway to program completion and eligibility for the National Registry or state examination at the paramedic level. These types of students often include physicians, registered nurses, out-of-state
paramedics, and non-CAAHEP paramedic graduates who are seeking eligibility to sit for the paramedic examination.
All students completing the program must demonstrate they have met ALL program requirements. Therefore, documentation of any student completing via an advanced placement policy must show how all of the program minimum didactic, laboratory, clinical and field requirements have been achieved through this process. All students, including those in advanced placement, completing the program are considered graduates and must be incorporated in all outcomes reporting.

CoAEMSP is beginning a formal review of programs' use of advanced placement and compliance with Standard V.A.2. Completing this questionnaire is REQUIRED of all programs.

The deadline is December 1, 2015.
Please Plan Ahead!
