A COMMITTEE ON ACCREDITATION OF CAAHEP

JUNE 2015

Welcome Lisa Collard! CoAEMSP's New Accreditation Services Specialist
On July 1 the CoAEMSP team will have a new member on its team. Lisa Collard is joining the CoAEMSP as Accreditation Services Specialist. The addition of this staff role will allow the CoAEMSP to continue providing world class customer service to its constituents and meet the needs of a growing organization.

Many of you may recognize the name, as she is no stranger to CoAEMSP. Lisa has 12 1/2 years of accreditation experience with the Commission On Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC), and previously worked with the CoAEMSP from 2003-2009 when the Committee was managed in Bedford, Texas.  During that time she was also the sole staff person for the Joint Review Committee on Education in Cardiovascular Technology (JRC-CVT).

Lisa will perform duties related to the Letter of Review and the accreditation processes; staff subcommittees, Review Teams, and Board meetings; as well as other administrative functions.

Lisa and her husband Dave will celebrate their 23rd wedding anniversary this year.  Dave is a Captain with the Fort Worth Fire Department. They have two children. Their son, Austin, will begin his junior year at Texas A&M in the fall where he is in the Corp of Cadets and intends to enter the Marine Corps upon graduation. Their daughter, Rebecca, graduated from high school this past May, and is also headed to Texas A&M in the fall where she plans to enter the field of nursing.

Her experience and understanding of the accreditation process will be a helpful addition to the CoAEMSP team. We are excited she is joining us!

The number one cited CAAHEP Standard is IV.A.1. Student Evaluation - Frequency and Purpose.

To provide program directors and faculty an opportunity to learn more about written exam item analysis and the CoAEMSP's requirements, a free webinar will be offered June 30 at 1 p.m. Central. The webinar will discuss item analysis of written exams including difficulty level and discrimination index or RPBI. Specific requirements of the CoAEMSP will be discussed as well as examples of item analysis and what the numbers mean.

Upon completion of this webinar the participant will: 1) Identify the CoAEMSP requirements for item analysis for major exams; 2) Describe the 2 components of item analysis; and 3) Discuss the use of difficulty level and discrimination index or RPBI to evaluate items on an exam.

Join Debra Cason, Patricia Tritt, Mike Miller and Gordy Kokx as they co-facilitate an interactive session that makes written exam item analysis understandable! Ms. Cason, Ms. Tritt and Dr. Miller are experienced program directors, seasoned site visitors, and current CoAEMSP Board members; Mr. Kokx is a previous program director, CoAEMSP Board member, and currently Assistant Director of Accreditation Services for the CoAEMSP.

Site Visitor Workshop to be Held in Kansas City for Selected Participants
The CoAEMSP is increasing its site visitor cadre and is seeking Paramedic educators and physicians to become site visitors for CoAEMSP. The training workshop will be hosted on October 26-27 in Kansas City for those applicants who have been selected to be site visitors.

FAQs were compiled to help answer the questions you may have regarding the workshop.

Q. Where is the workshop being held?

A. The workshop will be held at the Intercontinental Kansas City at the Plaza, 401 Ward

Pkwy, Kansas City, MO 64112. Kansas City is served by all major airlines.

Q. When is the deadline to apply?

A. The deadline is July 15.  All applicants will be notified of the decision on August 15.

Q. How do I apply?

A. An application packet must be submitted via email to jennifer@coaemsp.org, and must include ALL of the following:

  • The application form
  • A current CV
  • A letter of support from your employer
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation (letter of recommendation from a current site visitor is preferred)
  • Acknowledgement of the expectations of a site visitor (found on the last page of the application)

NOTE: The successfully-completed CAAHEP Site Visitor quiz is also part of the application packet, but CAAHEP automatically emails the results to CoAEMSP; you do NOT need to include this in your application packet. Incomplete packets or late submissions will not be considered.

Q. Should the letters of support and recommendation be submitted via email or hard copy?

A. The letters of support and recommendation must be emailed to jennifer@coaemsp.org. The CoAEMSP no longer accepts any paper documents.

Q. I previously submitted an application to become a site visitor. Do I need to submit another one?

A.

Yes. The current application has been updated and is the only application now accepted.
Q. Why is the applicant responsible for the travel expenses to and from the workshop?
A. Serving as a CAAHEP/CoAEMSP site visitor requires a commitment on behalf of the individual as well as the CoAEMSP. This commitment is one of time (the individual preparing for and conducting site visits), money (CoAEMSP providing the initial training of the individual and continued education), and expertise. Requiring the individual to contribute to the initial training shows a commitment and strong desire to give back to his/her profession of Paramedic education.
