CAAHEP Approves New Standard - V.A.4. Fair Practices

The CAAHEP Board made an immediate change that has been made to all CAAHEP Standards. Due to mandatory requirements by CHEA (Council for Higher Education Accreditation) to increase accreditation transparency and public disclosure, the CAAHEP Board recently approved a change to the Standards Template and has been incorporated into ALL sets of CAAHEP Standards. The change is located in section V. Fair Practices, A.4. These new Standards have been posted to the CAAHEP website.

The CoAEMSP has been asked to develop a policy that specifies which of the outcome(s) it wants to require its programs to publish. Whether this will be certification pass rates, job placement rates, or other outcomes, the CoAEMSP will require what is most appropriate for its programs.

The announcement was made by the CAAHEP Board during the annual CAAHEP Leadership Conference, which was held January 17-18, in Orlando. The CoAEMSP wanted to notify all of its communities of interest immediately. The next step is for the CoAEMSP to draft the policy, then notify the community. Stay tuned for more information in February.
SPR Working Documents Now Available to Assist in Gathering Data

To make it easier to gather the data you need before completing the online tool for your SPR, working documents have been developed and are now available.

SPRs are completed in the online SurveyMonkey tool. You have the ability to go back to previous pages in the survey and update existing responses until the survey is finished or until you have exited the survey. After submitting the survey, however, you will not be able to update existing responses. Therefore, you are encouraged to gather your data before starting the online tool, using the documents found in the links below.

Standards Revision Update

CURRENT STATUS: The Public Comment period ended December 31, 2014, resulting in 115 comments. The Standards Revision Subcommittee of the CoAEMSP is reviewing the comments and will report to the CoAEMSP Board any suggestions from the communities of interest that were not incorporated into the proposed Standards and Guidelines, and the rationale for that exclusion during its February 6-7, 2015 meeting.

NEXT STEPS: Seek endorsement from all of the 14 sponsoring organizations of the CoAEMSP, then the CoAEMSP will submit the completed "Request for a CAAHEP Open Hearing on Proposed Standards and Guidelines" form, along with the endorsement letters from each Sponsoring organization to the CAAHEP office. CAAHEP will schedule a public Open Hearing on the proposed Standards and Guidelines.

CAAHEP Announces Fee Increase

During its November 21 meeting, the CAAHEP Board of Directors approved an increase in its institutional fee effective July 2016. The fee will be raised from $450 per year to $550 per year. This is the fee paid by every institution that sponsors one or more CAAHEP-accredited programs.

"CAAHEP has worked hard to keep our expenses down and avoid a fee increase to our sponsoring institution." said Thomas Skalko, PhD, LRT/CTRS, CAAHEP President. "It has been more than 15 years since the last time CAAHEP raised its institutional fee. The Board was extremely conscientious to keep the increase to the minimum necessary to continue to provide accreditation services to our accredited programs."

Kathleen Megivern, JD, CAE, Executive Director, said, "The increase in institutional fees will not take place until July 1, 2016, so that our sponsoring institutions will have adequate time to budget for the increase no matter when their fiscal year begins. Programs and institutions will receive notices throughout the coming year as reminders to prepare for the new fee structure."

Any sponsoring institution or CAAHEP accredited program with questions on the new institutional fee should contact the CAAHEP office for assistance.
