JUNE 2013

Invoices Mailed May 6
Annual Fees Due July 1

On May 6 invoices for the 2013-2014 annual fee were emailed to programs that are CAAHEP accredited, hold the CoAEMSP Letter of Review, or are in the process of seeking accreditation. The annual fee of $1200 is due July 1, and is considered late if not received by July 31. Programs that have not paid the fee by the due date are subject to a late processing fee of ten percent (10%) of the overdue accreditation fee amount.

The invoice was emailed to the program director unless the program informed the CoAEMSP otherwise.

Effective July 1, 2014, programs with satellite campuses will be assessed an additional $500 per satellite campus per year.
New Process for Completing Student Evaluation SSR Questionnaire

Programs preparing a self study report for becoming accredited (ISSR) or for reaccreditation (CSSR) must survey both faculty and students. The process for surveying students, however, has recently changed.

The Student Evaluation SSR Questionnaire is now conducted using SurveyMonkey.

To access this survey, please 1) email Karen Franks (karen@coaemsp.org) to request the link to the Student Evaluation SSR Questionnaire and 2) include your name, title, and the institution's name in your email.
Moving from the LoR to Initial Accreditation

If you currently hold the CoAEMSP Letter of Review (LoR), you will submit a complete Initial-Accreditation Self Study Report (ISSR) 6 months after the graduation of the first class of students after receiving the LoR, along with a second self study report evaluation fee of $500 and the site visit flat fee of $2700 (see Fees page for exceptions to the flat site visit fee). You will receive a formal notification from the CoAEMSP at least 6 months prior to the due date of the ISSR. Programs should not send in the ISSR prior to the CoAEMSP's request, as this will slow down the process. The process for initial accreditation will be similar to that which programs go through seeking continuing accreditation.

If the complete ISSR is not satisfactory, then the program will have 30 days after receipt of the Executive Analysis to provide additional information to address the deficiencies, otherwise the LoR may be revoked.  The LoR may also be revoked if the 6 month submission deadline is not met.
Terminal Evaluation

by Patricia L. Tritt, RN, MA

Paramedic education is (or should be) competency based.  This implies frequent evaluation of each student to determine competency, both at the formative and summative stages.

Formative assessment occurs throughout the program of study: in the classroom using cognitive instruments; in the laboratory documenting skill mastery; in the clinical arena under the supervision of preceptors; and in the field internship as the student progresses from team member to team leader.  Programs are also required to assess competency in the terminal phase of the program.  Read more...
