Disaster contributions being put to use
Thanks for the wonderful response to our national Disaster Fund collection request. It is humbling to be part of such a compassionate and generous brotherhood. Because of your sacrificial giving, the HarvestCall board has been able to respond with nearly $1,000,000 to assist many who were ravaged by disaster in Haiti and the United States.

Helping Haiti rebuild after the hurricane

Following the devastation from Hurricane Matthew, HarvestCall missionaries focused on responding to immediate needs of those in close proximity and restoring local infrastructure while making our facilities and equipment available to rapid response organizations. Shortly after that, HarvestCall provided
$100,000 to help with the recovery, and now after formulating a detailed plan,
another $345,000 was given for a total of $445,000 from the Disaster Fund.

How will this be spent? Our goal is to help the people of Haiti help themselves. Local organizations that we know and trust are doing the front-lines work of evaluating needs and coordinating relief. The biggest need is replacing or repairing roofs blown away by the winds. Hence, the bulk of the money is for construction materials, some of which will be purchased locally, some shipped in and warehoused at our Depot in Les Cayes. We provide the materials; the Haitians provide the labor.

In addition to construction materials, money is being designated for:
  • Food, medicine and shelter dispensed through specialized relief organizations
  • Immediate relief provided firsthand through missionaries (helping neighbors, employees, community)
  • Seed and fertilizer to help farmers replace lost crops
  • Cholera response materials
  • Repairs to Hospital Lumiere compound
  • Repairs to Hospital Lumiere hydro reservoir
  • Small grants to hospital employees for their home repairs
  • Tarps
  • Construction supplies and equipment
  • Shipping additional sea containers
  • and much more.

Disaster recovery in the USA

We cannot forget that even in America, there are less fortunate people who lack the means to recover from a disaster. Each year, HarvestCall facilitates the mobilization of hundreds of brothers, sisters and friends from around the country to demonstrate and proclaim Christ's love as we build or repair homes for victims of flood, fire or storm. This year, we'll be in Columbia, SC. (All volunteer slots are filled.) Total expenses for this 12-week rebuilding ministry will be approximately $500,000, disbursed from the Disaster Fund.

It isn't just about disasters

While disasters are featured prominently in the news and their images and stories grip our hearts, sometimes these headline events can overshadow the less visible - but no less urgent - needs in other places. HarvestCall has an array of ongoing outreach activities throughout the world and depends upon donations to our general fund, which provides the most flexibility for directing them where most needed.

Currently our donations are 15% below our budget for the year. If God would move you to assist us in shrinking that shortfall, we'd be grateful.

Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord. Psalm 31:24.

"Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness" as they observe and experience His love in the hearts and lives of His children and their courage and hope is restored. (Psalm 107:8)
