Recent developments at Hospital Lumiere
A little over two months ago, we put out an urgent request for prayers because of unrest in Haiti directed at Hospital Lumiere. We are extremely grateful and humbled by the overwhelming response of the brotherhood in our time of need. While we posted regular updates on the situation to Facebook, we realize that not all of you saw those. This provides an update on the situation, as well as some other news from this important medical outreach in Bonne Fin.

Situation update - protests about electricity, etc.

Like many things in Haiti, resolving the issue has been a slow process. But significant progress has been made, thanks in large part to prayer support.

To recap: A group of Haitians in the adjacent community of Bonne Fin had been disruptive, blocking key employees from getting to the hospital, threatening to inflict damage to property and lives and making demands on the hospital leadership team. These demands focused on providing free electricity for the community and the hiring policies of the hospital. The above photo shows a lock and other items the protestors used to block the main hospital gate during one of the periods of unrest.

We currently have continued non-confrontational dialogue with the community. We are proposing a diesel powered electrical program for them which would be managed by a community co-op. Our goal is to remove the responsibility of community electricity from the hospital, so the Hospital Lumiere Administration can focus on the mission of providing medical care and sharing the message of the gospel. We are thankful to be now engaged in friendly dialogue, and hope a satisfactory conclusion can be reached in the near future. Please remain prayerful with us that a solution can be reached.
Coming out of retirement to serve

Sis. Dr. Patricia Banwart of the West Bend Apostolic Christian congregation has been appointed to serve at Hospital Lumiere. Dr. Banwart will be serving as a Missionary Physician, and intends to focus her efforts at improving quality of patient care.

Although recently retired, Dr. Banwart decided she still would like to use her talents to serve the Lord. "I have been given so much and now it is up to me to return those talents to Him ten-fold. This is a huge leap of faith for me and I humbly appreciate all prayers and encouragement."

And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. Matthew 25:40
