God's plan for our church and Jamaica
For nearly three decades, the Apostolic Christian Church has had a heart for the people of Jamaica. It began with a small seed. An AC couple on vacation met some Jamaican believers and began relationships. As they learned of some needs, they began shipping food, medical supplies, Bibles and educational resources.

Over time, we became connected with Caribbean Christian Centre for the Deaf (CCCD), and instead of just physical aid, we also began sending teams to Jamaica in the early 90's. As our brethren visited the island and engaged with the students at CCCD, there was a growing interest in on-going support, and so our Child Sponsorship program began supporting Deaf children who attend CCCD.

This brief video relates the experience of a young man who lost his hearing, but gained an abundant life through Christ, thanks to CCCD and a generous sponsor.

God opens doors to new ministry opportunities

In 2007, the first full-time Apostolic Christian missionaries were sent to Jamaica to work with CCCD. Over the years, our missionary team has learned a lot and built important relationships. We are now seeing God open new doors for gospel proclamation and demonstration, with the Deaf and other groups.
There is now an exciting opportunity to provide leadership within the ministry of CCCD.

Sis. Tashi Widmer, one of HarvestCall's missionaries in Jamaica, has been asked to serve as Executive Director of CCCD. (Tashi is a Deaf Jamaican who came to the USA for college and lived with an Apostolic Christian family, then later became a member of the Leo church. She is married to Bro. Blake Widmer.)

This change in leadership provides opportunity for even more effective association between CCCD and HarvestCall as the Lord leads our missionary team into the next chapter in God's ongoing story of Apostolic Christians ministering alongside the people of Jamaica.

How you can help

HarvestCall's unique relationship with the people of Jamaica and the Deaf community continues to grow, and we are thankful for the increase God has added.
  • If you are touched by this work, consider signing up to be a Child Sponsor or if you sponsor a child already, maybe you could sponsor one more.

  • Donations to the Jamaica General Fund are also appreciated.

  • Our brethren in Jamaica welcome visitors, please contact Bro. Blake Widmer if you would like to join a small group to Jamaica to learn and see more.

It is the acts of love, prayer, and contributions of many, many brothers and sisters, including the host couple mentioned in this article, that God has used to establish the HarvestCall ministry in Jamaica. It takes a brotherhood! There have been challenges along the way but the Word of God is being demonstrated and taught to many young Deaf men and women. Please pray that in the midst of the communication hurdles of Deaf ministry, "the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you:" 2 Thess. 3:1.

In Christian Love and Gratitude,
John Huber
Executive Director
