Bastrop rebuilding update.
Real lives. Real stories. Real hope.
Robert Glasgow had lost everything to fire. He sadly watched from the top of a hill as the flames consumed all his belongings: home and outbuilding with motorcycles, fishing boat, 4-wheeler and gun collection (see photo above). Robert sees some good in this as "prior to the fire, I was worried too much about my stuff. Now I don't have to worry about it." Suffering from a heart condition and unable to work, he is immensely grateful for his new home.

Consider helping others like Robert. We need more volunteers in April.

You are bringing hope, joy, and Christian witness

Meet Jan Riley. This was her expression as she was viewing the plan for her new house. She was ecstatic and so grateful. She had lost everything to fire and before HarvestCall arrived in Bastrop County, Texas, she and many others didn't know where to turn.

Since the fire was not declared a federal disaster, no FEMA money was available for victims. And fire was not the only problem. The Bastrop area has also been hit with two floods and many did not have flood insurance.

We cannot underestimate what it means to discouraged people to see vanloads of our brethren from all across the country roll in to town just to help them. HarvestCall isn't just rebuilding homes. Together, we are giving hope to hurting people who had just about given up.

aprilMinistry project update
Thanks to all who have volunteered and come to Bastrop. Three of the home remodels are now completed. One more total remodel is well underway. Five new homes are under construction; four of them are dried in.

But, as we look to April, we are short on manpower.

More volunteers needed in April
To fulfill our commitments and complete the work, we need more volunteers to fill our April slots. In particular, we are in great need of:
  • Drywall Finishers
  • Finish Carpenters
  • Painters - Interior and Exterior
  • General Cleaning
Please visit the website - www.harvestcall.org - for more information and to sign up.
While having construction tradesmen in Bastrop is important, so too are spiritual workers, those who will make it a point to share God's Word with the disaster victims, lead Bible studies, or just tell others the reason for the peace and joy that they have. The Apostle Paul urged the Colossians that, "...whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus." Col. 3:17

May God grant us grace to proclaim Christ & serve others whether through ministries like this large-scale winter work project, and/or however you are led to minister to others in your local communities.

In Christian Love,
John Huber
Executive Director
