As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith. Galatians 6:10

Ministry is most effective when it is direct and local. In Mexico, the needs are great and World Relief is unable to provide "hands on" help everywhere. To reach as many needy as possible, we work through other organizations that are there, on the ground, by providing them financial support. i6eight is one such organization.

World Relief's role in Puerto Penasco
World Relief's Mexico Committee currently supplies funding for construction materials and bulk food in the impoverished city of Puerto Penasco, Mexico. Work teams may be considered in the future. Typical homes are cobbled together with scrap lumber, old pallets, etc. The organization's director stated it this way; "It is incredibly emotional when a family has a concrete floor for the first time in their lives, not to mention a roof that doesn't leak and doors that lock."

Hard decisions and changed lives
Some time back, the construction team was working through a substantial list of family applications, praying about which family to build a home for. They had narrowed down the list of applicants to three families. A man named Javier and his family was on the 'short list'. The week before the scheduled build, the leadership team gathered again to pray. Through that prayer time they decided to revisit the three families, asking God to provide clear guidance. As they visited each family and held their cold hands, rain dripped on them through the leaky 'roofs'. In the end, there was no clear guidance towards one particular family over another. They all needed homes. Thankfully, enough funds then arrived from World Relief to build homes for all three families! (In all, World Relief funds provided for eight homes last year.)

Later, Javier began working for i6eight full time as the leader for their construction team. This helped him overcome a 27-year drug habit. He began faithfully attending church, attending Bible studies and reading his Bible. At first his wife was skeptical. She didn't believe he was changing. Gradually she witnessed Javier's behavior, attitude and heart change. He was becoming a better father to their three children, a more stable provider, a better husband and a mentor to younger men walking in his old ways. God's grace is transforming Javier and his family.

This story is just one example of how demonstrating the love of Christ by meeting people's physical needs can open their hearts to the gospel and lead to life change through Christ. Thanks for your faithful support of this ministry.

In Him,

John Huber, Executive Director
