Hospital Lumiere

As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.
Gal 6:10

Dramatic stories unfold each day at Hospital Lumiere. Happy endings are made possible because of God's grace and the support you provide.

In this update, learn about how twin babies were saved, God's call to a sister to serve as a Teaching Intern, the need to replace a well-used vehicle and opportunities to volunteer - perhaps one suits you?
An Emergency Delivery
When Jaqueline Vido arrived at Hospital Lumiere she was unconscious and in distress. Pregnant and suffering from preeclampsia, her blood pressure was soaring and she and her unborn twins were at risk for a poor outcome. Jaqueline's twins (Keyla, a girl and Kerlen, a boy) were delivered by Caesarean section the same day she arrived at Hospital Lumiere. The OB/GYN ward was one of the first areas of the hospital to be renovated and is now one of the busiest. Today both mother and twins are doing fine as you can see in the picture. Thanks to your prayers and support, they received effective medical care with compassion and Christian love at Hospital Lumiere.

For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Matt 25:35

Missionary school to get additional teacher

Sis. Leah Bertschi of the Roanoke congregation has been appointed to a one-year teaching internship at Hospital Lumiere. Leah's previous years of experience as a special education teacher in Central Illinois have prepared her for this new opportunity, in which she will serve as a teacher for the missionary children at Hospital Lumiere. Her previous travels to Casa de Vida y Esperanza in Magdelena, Mexico as well as to Les Cayes and Bonne Fin, Haiti gave her a desire to "someday" serve as a missionary. Over the past few months, Leah has felt God leading her toward this experience, and she has felt His gentle direction in God's Word. She found special clarity in Galatians 6:10, "As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith." She humbly requests prayers as she takes this step. Leah is thankful for God's provision and excited for this new chapter.

Hospital Lumiere's Transportation Needs
The hospital's old 1999 Toyota is tired! The floor is rusting out and about every third week it breaks down and is out of commission. Reliable transportation is needed to transport critical patients, visiting medical professionals, lab supplies, medicines and other medical supplies.

Plans are underway to replace the 1999 model with a new rugged, 4WD vehicle with ample capacity for people and cargo. The estimated cost is $42,500. If you feel moved to help provide the transportation and other ongoing needs of Hospital Lumiere, please consider a gift at this time. Donations can be made online with credit card or by mailing a check (see sidebar). Specify Haiti - Hospital Lumiere Vehicle Fund.

Church Ministers
The work at Hospital Lumiere is more than material and the needs are more than physical. The Hospital staff and the team workers understand the most important objective is that all may come to know and glorify God by being born again and living in obedience to the Bible. Apostolic Christian Church ministers are needed to assist in this role as they accompany medical and construction teams to Hospital Lumiere. Team ministers coordinate daily devotions and provide spiritual support for the team members, hospital staff, patients and their families. For more information contact Rich Bertschi at 309-467-2351 or lemangm@mtco.com.

See the World Relief website for the most up-to-date information on work teams.

Thanks for your faithful, generous support of Hospital Lumiere and our many other ministries in Haiti and other places. Please remember to pray for those our brotherhood has sent to serve, as well as the many they are serving.

In Christian love,

John Huber
