PREPARING MISSIONARIES FOR SPIRITUAL BATTLE

There are now over 50 brothers and sisters serving in other countries on behalf of our Apostolic Christian Church. This represents one way our brotherhood has applied this verse:

And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! Romans 10.15

Living in a foreign land, bridging cultural differences, and ministering in hostile spiritual environments is challenging. It requires much prayer. Being a spiritual battle, it also requires training and preparation. Perhaps you are curious about how our brethren are made ready for service in the field. This Email will cover one aspect of that.

Preparing for Service

Just as a country equips its soldiers with equipment and training to help them successfully and safely accomplish their mission, as a brotherhood we strive to do the same for those we send into missionary service. A Mission Committee Guiding Principle states that we should, "Prepare brethren who are called of the Lord and are being sent by the Church to share the Gospel message of salvation."

While we know it is the Lord who prepares brethren for service spiritually, it has proven to be a great blessing to our missionaries to learn about their host country's characteristics, get tips on how to help their families adjust, and receive spiritual encouragement particular to the special challenges of cross-cultural ministry.

For the past two summers, we have conducted multi-day "missionary orientations" for new or recently sent families. The missionaries and their children gather in a large home or small retreat center to discuss issues and learn together through one-on-one discussions and group training. The training is facilitated by Outreach Coordinator, Bro. Kirk Plattner, along with elder brothers, former missionaries, and ACCFS counselors. These times together have been a blessing and we anticipate ongoing development of these retreats.

How You Can Help

Pray

More than anything else, please pray for our missionaries. Prayer is of paramount importance. Those serving are listed here.

Give or Lend

In addition, if you have a heart for helping prepare our missionaries for service, please consider the following needs:

  • Finding a training location for 6+ families is a challenge each year. If you know of a large home, or retreat/conference center that would be available for a week (or less) in the summer and well suited for this purpose, please contact Kirk Plattner or call him at 765-357-1496.
  • Financial support for the training to cover the food, lodging and travel for our missionaries is also appreciated. You can donate online (Select Mission Committee) or send a check to:

Please write "Missionary Training" in the memo.

Thanks for your interest in and support of Apostolic Christian Church missions.

In Christ,
