Milk for a Hungry People
NEW DAIRY PROGRAM GETTING STARTED IN HAITI

As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.
Gal 6:10

In the plain of Torbeck, several miles west of Les Cayes, Haiti, dairy farmers struggle to keep a few cattle fed well enough to get just a few pounds of milk per day from each cow. Without refrigeration and packaging equipment, dairy products rarely make it to the marketplace. As a result, most Haitians in this area do not have access to the milk, cheese, and other dairy products we take for granted in our groceries.

This is a scenario that is all too common throughout Haiti, where poverty and malnutrition are commonplace, and daily struggles for survival are a part of life.

Improving production, economics, and nutrition

A committee of Apostolic Christian brothers has been working through World Relief to establish a test farm and milking hub, with refrigerated storage. Haitian farmers will also learn techniques for improved cattle forage.

With the potential for increased production from healthier cows, and way to market their product, Haitian farmers can improve their economic conditions, and many Haitian children can have their diets improved with nutrients they now lack.

Working with Haitian farmers will also provide an opportunity to share the gospel with those who may not have been introduced to God's grace through the shed blood of Jesus.

As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that you may grow thereby.

  Land Purchase for Farm

A first step in making this dairy program a reality is the purchase of land. A ten-acre parcel has been identified and sale arrangements have been made to acquire it.

Approximately $100,000 is needed to complete this transaction. After the purchase of the land, construction is planned for a feed and equipment storage building, milk processing center, laboratory, and administration building.

If you have a heart for improving the lives of the Haitian people and are moved to help with this effort, your financial assistance is needed and would be greatly appreciated.

  Job Opportunity: Dairy Program Administrator

To administer the dairy program in Haiti, an in-country manager will be needed. Applicants for this position must be a member in good standing of the Apostolic Christian Church, have the support of their home elder, and have a heart for serving. An agricultural background, especially in dairy operations, is desired. The applicant must be willing to relocate to Cayes, Haiti for three years.

If you feel God's leading to be a part of this program, please prayerfully consider this opportunity.
