Hospital Lumiere

As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.
Gal 6:10

Jesus told us that in this world we will have tribulation. That's true here in the U.S. and also in Haiti. Thankfully, the rest of the verse says "but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world."

This Email highlights some positive developments at Hospital Lumiere, such as a new Facilities Manager and the outpatient clinic's grand opening, but also challenges, such as the lack of reliable power

As always, your prayers and support are deeply appreciated.
  Electricity situation causing serious challenges

God's people have an adversary and we know that Satan wants to bring trouble to every good work that glorifies God. Lately, we're seeing evidence of Satan's redoubled efforts against our mission at Hospital Lumiere. We have had challenges that are stretching and growing our reliance on God. Praise Him for that and for all things!

power

One such ongoing challenge is providing consistent electrical power. Hospital Lumiere recently began a three-part improvement project to upgrade our electrical system. Thanks to your contributions, we've made some progress, but now face a setback.

This past week, the new 40Kw generator failed and is out of service while being repaired. The remaining backup generator is very old, oversized and inefficient. Its voltage regulator is not functioning, causing it to put out poor power that is not useable. In addition, the extended lack of rain at Bonne Fin has reduced the water supply for the hydroelectric generator. As a result it can operate only 6-8 hours a day, maximum. These developments have caused Hospital Lumiere to be without power for two nights in the last week. As you can imagine, this makes it hard to provide quality patient care. We are praying that the Lord will provide the funds necessary to accelerate the remaining phases of the improvement project to prevent these problems in the future.

If you feel moved to support this special project, include "electricity improvements" in your check memo or select it from the online giving choices

zimmerman

Facilities Manager - Zimmermans called to serve

Bro. David and Sis. Janella Zimmerman of the Forrest congregation, have been appointed to serve at Hospital Lumiere. David will serve there as Facilities Manager. David has experience as a mechanic, and both David and Janella worked as Paramedics prior to coming to Hospital Lumiere. The Zimmermans have one child, Orrin (2), and are expecting their second in January.

Approximately a year and a half ago, the Zimmermans felt the call to mission service in Haiti. They prayerfully began the World Relief and Mission Committee missionary pre-placement process. During that time, an Intern position came open at Hospital Lumiere. They felt that this opportunity would give them valuable insight into missionary life and work. They spent six months this year serving at Hospital Lumiere with David working as an Intern doing mechanical, electrical and construction work. They returned to the United States this summer to complete the placement process, and attend World Relief missionary orientation. Upon their return to Haiti in October, their training will continue in the areas of Haitian language and culture. They ask for your prayers and support during their time in Haiti.

And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you: 1 Thessalonians 3:12

clinic  Hospital Lumiere Clinic Grand Opening

A grand opening ceremony was held on Friday, August 29 for the recently reconfigured Hospital Lumiere outpatient clinic and patient reception/registration area.

This event celebrated the completion of the first of six phases to reconfigure the reception/registration area, medical records, and outpatient clinic. This project will improve patient flow, provide a more welcoming atmosphere, consolidate admissions and archives, increase our capacity to see patients and provide space for more specialty clinics. It is another step towards giving "excellent and effective medical care with compassion and Christian love".

Work on phase two of this project has started and should be done by December of this year. Successive phases, two thru six, will be initiated and completed as funding is available, hopefully in 2015.
prayers  Your Prayers Needed

Operating a mission hospital in a poor, foreign nation with Haitian boy a very different culture is a difficult undertaking and Hospital Lumiere depends upon your prayers. Please pray that the staff can keep the shield of faith raised high so that the fiery darts of our enemy will be warded off. Specifically, please entreat God for the electricity situation, a plumbing system that is not always reliable, the daily challenges of managing the hospital, and for our missionary families. Currently serving at Hospital Lumiere are:

  • Rick and Komari Aberle, Mara, Krae and Selah
  • Daryl and Norma Luginbuhl
  • Sheila Moser
  • Eric and Jami Hartzler, Leah, Grace, Conrad, Quincy and Gideon
  • Lee and Desma Klopfenstein, Beth, Bekah, Jared and Chloe

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Ephesians 6:11

Medical Teams
Every month, a team of medical providers is scheduled to help further the work at the hospital. We are in need of volunteers for the coming year. Please review the schedule, and consider joining a team. There are ample opportunities for non-medical volunteers to serve on Inventory Teams.

Turning a hospital around is a big undertaking. It's a long-term commitment. We are thankful for the brotherhood's faithful support and God's guidance in this endeavor. We are seeing much good fruit. To God be the glory.
