Meet Pierre, one of the young boys shown heading to school near Cavaillon, Haiti. This school is in one of the many structures that have been built in southern Haiti to give young men like Pierre a chance to learn, to develop their talents, and have a chance for better life.

Haiti is a country where the average citizen has few if any of the educational opportunities we take for granted. Only some are able to read & write and have productive skills. Without a publicly-funded school system, Haitians depend upon schools provided by local churches. Typically underfunded, these schools often hold class in the open air or in rudimentary shelters. Outside help, such as from World Relief, is needed to build facilities.

Thanks to your donations and work team participation, hundreds of children have been given a suitable place to be educated and taught the truth of God's Word. In addition, many young men and women have been given a chance to develop life skills through a trade school program.

Job Opportunity: Mechanic Needed in Haiti

It takes a growing number of vehicles and equipment to carry out our work in rural Haiti, where roads are either primitive or non-existent. The harsh conditions have taken a toll on the vehicles and equipment and the upkeep is a constant challenge. As the ministry has grown in southern Haiti, along with the activity at nearby Hospital Lumiere, vehicle maintenance demands have also grown.

Position Description

An equipment mechanic is needed in the Construction Department in Haiti to maintain the vehicles, generators, and construction equipment at Cite Lumiere and Bonne Finn, Haiti and order, purchase, and maintain inventory of parts to support the Apostolic Christian World Relief programs in southern Haiti. This position would also involve training and mentoring a Haitian assistant to provide future mechanical maintenance. The equipment mechanic would reside in the Cite Lumiere compound in Les Cayes and report to the ACWR Construction Operations Facilitator.

The applicant should be experienced in mechanical maintenance, be a member of the Apostolic Christian Church, willing to learn Creole and willing to locate to Haiti for a minimum of 3 years.

World Relief has worked together with Haitians to install hundreds of school roofs. They could use your help. There is an opportunity for those with knowledge of mechanics, carpentry, electricity, plumbing, painting, and just loving your neighbor. You don't have to be an expert craftsman. Some with basic skills are needed to help assemble and paint school desks and benches. Ministering brothers should consider joining a work team as a minister.
