Your Involvement

As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.
Galatians 6:10

On Sunday, November 17, 2013, a powerful EF4 tornado ripped a path of destruction through the town of Washington, Illinois. Moving in a northeasterly direction, the tornado twisted and turned along a path that spared several local churches that were filled with worshipers - this included the Washington Apostolic Christian Church on the northeast edge of town.

Hundreds of homes in the community were not spared the direct hit of this devastating tornado. Approximately a thousand homes were damaged or destroyed along the path of the storm.

  Recovery Efforts

Much was accomplished in the weeks that followed. Volunteers poured into the area the day after the storm and continued to come until winter arrived and the work halted.

At this time, only about half of the cleanup work is completed and there is a great need for volunteers to assist in the work that remains.

These families need our help.

  Volunteers Needed

Beginning May 1st, volunteers are needed for the continuing cleanup effort.

Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday organized teams will be dispatched from the Washington Apostolic Christian Church to sites within the community where assistance is needed.

These teams will work under the direction of local project leaders. The work will involve debris removal from home sites in preparation for rebuilding and various other tasks throughout the Washington area to help farmers and homeowners prepare to rebuild or restore property.

  20 Volunteers per day

Twenty volunteers are needed for each day of the project. For planning purposes, it's important that all volunteers register via the World Relief website.  Noon meals will be provided. Accommodations are available at numerous area hotels.
