Your Involvement

As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.
Galatians 6:10

Thank you again for all who have volunteered their time and equipment to help those in the Washington disaster recovery.  Your presence and heartfelt prayers have made a difference in the lives of many.

Following are the plans for the rest of this week:

Wednesday - 11/27
No additional volunteers will be needed other than those already registered. The City of Washington has imposed the following regarding debris removal:

Effective at noon Wednesday, major public works operations (debris removal) will transition to homeowner/private contractor responsibility.

What this means...
  • Homeowner/volunteer access to property in town opens at noon on Wednesday.
  • However, home and/or property owners are responsible for getting a dumpster on their property to handle debris removal from this point forward.
  • Thus, until disposal means are identified for/by each impacted property owner, we don't have as much opportunity to clean up in some of the affected areas in town.
  • This is why we need to restrict the volunteer numbers for tomorrow (Wednesday).
Thursday - 11/28 (Thanksgiving Day)
No volunteer work planned.

Friday & Saturday - 11/29 & 11/30
Target volunteer turn-out desired is:  35 - 45 people
We will make a decision late Wednesday or Thursday what other resources are needed.

Future
We will be accessing needs for the following weeks and will communicate them in the coming days.  Anything could change in the days ahead, so thank you sincerely for everyone's patience, prayers, and support.

  Instructions for Volunteers

All volunteers need to register by emailing the following information:
  • Number in group
  • Date available
  • Equipment you will bring
Email to:
Les Schambach

We will not need hundreds of people like last week. The clean-up is by no means complete, but with all the volunteer organizations in the area, the needs are more selective and targeted. Thus, we are seeking to send smaller teams to specific addresses and identified home/landowners. If more than that show up, we will send them to the fields or to the donation centers to unload trucks, etc.

Resources needed for Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday
  • Debris removal
  • Chainsaw work
  • Some debris clean-up in fields
  • Some moving/packing as needed
5-6 skid steer crews needed
  • Skid steer (track-type best) w/ Grapple
  • 1-2 Chain Saws (w/ extra gas, oil, etc)
1-2 Mini Hi-Hoe/Excavator crews
  • With thumb or grapple
  • 1-2 Chain Saws (w/ extra gas, oil, etc)
1 dump trailer pulled behind pickup
  • For use in fields and timber
  • For use w/ skid steers
All Volunteers:  Please try to bring your own N95 masks (dust masks) and gloves when you come.

Other supplies needed for clean-up work (volunteers can bring these along):
  • N95/dust masks
  • Wheelbarrows
  • Rakes (heavy duty leaf rakes; this work is hard on the rakes so will likely get damaged and broken)
