As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

Typhoon Haiyan

On Friday and Saturday, Nov 8 and 9, a major typhoon swept the Philippine Islands. This was one of the most severe typhoons to ever strike these islands with wind gusts nearing 200 mph.

These winds pushed ashore large waves towering the height of a four story building, much in the manner of waves created by a tsunami. The waves swept ashore destroying buildings that had been thought safe from storm destruction.

As the storm swept across the islands the winds created substantial damage and it is estimated that millions have been affected.

  World Relief Assistance

Typhoon Haiyan Early reports estimate that 2-3 million families have lost their homes and loss of life could reach 10,000. Many remote villages are so isolated that it may take many more days to get an estimate of their damage.

On Monday, November 11th, World Relief contacted four international Christian relief organizations to determine their needs. Each will be responding and will shortly have specific plans for us to review. It is likely that they will initially send large quantities of disaster supplies including medical, sanitary, and temporary housing materials.

World Relief intends to provide assistance from the Disaster Fund and will provide details of this assistance as soon as the information is received from the relief organizations.
