Your Involvement

As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith. Galatians 6:10
Greetings!

Surgery in Haiti Over the past twenty-five years, the medical outreach of World Relief has gradually increased in size and scope of operation to include sending several medical teams per year to Haiti and Mexico, supporting a mobile medical clinic in Indonesia and the operation of Hospital Lumiere in Haiti.

To facilitate the growing need of medical care in under-served areas, a World Relief medical committee was established in August 2011. It is a stand-alone committee within World Relief and supports the fourth pillar of the Apostolic Christian Church: To offer humble deeds of service to fellow believers and all mankind, in the name of Christ.

The mission of the World Relief Medical Committee is to glorify God by facilitating high-quality medical care utilizing the resources with which we are entrusted. Their endeavor is to alleviate human suffering and encourage individuals to enjoy a saving relationship through Jesus Christ.

  When Seeking to Help Others...

  Instead of "fixing the poor..."
  • WMedicale need to walk together, asking God to help both of us, as we all have needs. We should "go as a learner."
  • We should not do things for people that they can do for themselves. We want neither to create an unhealthy reliance on aid from others, nor to imply that local people are incapable of helping themselves.
  • This is a lifelong effort, not a one or two week trip. It is a mutual process of continual growth that moves everyone involved into a closer relationship with God.

  Opportunities to Make a Difference

Even though we may not be able to provide high-tech medical care to those in developing countries, we do have opportunities to make a difference in those who may feel like "survival is the only option."

Ixtlan Medical

To help others long term, one of the goals of the Medical Committee is to focus more on education. In the past year, World Relief teams have provided medical services in Mexico, Haiti, and Indonesia. Some services include:
  • Ixtlan Medical Medical campaign to 800 families in Reynosa to provide health screening, consultations, medications, and education.
  • First aid training to the teachers and parents of the Ixtlan school.
  • Health education to children at Ixtlan school - including teeth brushing and having height and weight charted on growth chart.
  • A health fair at Ixtlan focusing on spiritual and mental health, women's health issues, heart disease, and diabetes.
  • Ixtlan MexicoA Community Walk in Ixtlan to encourage a healthy spiritual, physical and emotional lifestyle.
  • Eye examination and eye glasses clinic in Ixtlan.
  • Monthly week-long medical teams to Hospital Lumiere to assist medical staff.
  • Basic EKG (heart rhythm) training for Hospital Lumiere staff.
  • Cervical cancer screening for over 200 women at Hospital Lumiere.  Forty of those were referred for further testing and follow up for abnormalities.
  • Indonesian Children Purchasing dental equipment for a clinic at CVE. The equipment is used by house parent Sis. Berenice Aupperle who is also a dentist, to provide dental care to the children and staff at CVE.
  • Since 2009, financial support for a mobile medical clinic to the Telo Islands, Indonesia.
