Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.

Greetings! It is a privilege and blessing to have a church in Washington, D.C., the capitol of our country, to remind us of the importance of praying for those in authority.
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. 1 Timothy 2:1-2

Experience a Warm Family Atmosphere
|
With services held in a split-level home, and a "family" of approximately twenty people who worship there on a typical Sunday, a warm and friendly atmosphere can be felt. Included with the minister and his family are nine local members and three children, and often a family or two passing through.
If you visited the Washington, D.C. church, you probably met the couple or family serving as the "caretaker" for the home where services are held. During an average stay of three to four weeks, the caretaker supports the church through fellowship, cleaning, lawn maintenance and hosting visiting ministers.
The layout and large rooms of the home make it ideally suited for the church's use. If you visit, be sure to notice the walnut pulpit in the sanctuary, which was the one originally built for and used in the Union City, New Jersey church.
The church is located in Silver Spring, Maryland, about 16 miles north of the District of Columbia and 27 miles from Baltimore. This area is primarily suburban neighborhoods. The nearest church is in Philadelphia, PA, which is 2 1/2 hours to the north. Bro. Ben Wiegand serves as counseling elder.
Prior to purchasing the home in late 2006, with the assistance of the Building Advisory Committee, the church family held services in a hotel in Tysons Corner, VA. Beginning in the 1980s, Bro. Ed and Sister Nancy Aeschleman from Philadelphia, started the services, which were held initially once a month, and later three times per month.
|
Existing families were drawn to the area primarily through the abundant employment opportunities. Two brothers currently work for the federal government.
Over the years, many others have come to take advantage of the excellent opportunities for higher education and internships in various fields of study.
|
In addition to church history, the D.C. area is rich in colonial and early Federal era history, and has numerous Civil War sites. Many free museums and learning opportunities abound, making the area an educational experience for the entire family.
The mid-Atlantic region, and Maryland in particular, offers a cross-section of diversity throughout the country: flatland, hills, and mountains; seashores, woodlands, and farms; rural, suburban, and urban. Maryland, as the northernmost southern state, offers a climate with relatively mild winters and beautiful springs and autumns.

Outreach in the Community
|
The church family has also engaged in outreach and service opportunities including visiting shut-in friends, singing at a nearby nursing home after Sunday services and providing meals for homeless people in coordination with a local service provider.
Rich fellowship opportunities are found for those living in the area through the national minister rotation, devoted caretakers, work teams and volunteers that have transformed the church property. Additionally, caretakers sometimes organize potlucks and hymn sings that greatly enrich the congregational life and fellowship with visitors.
|
If you have a heart to be an ambassador for Christ and help fulfill the desire of the small church to grow, please prayerfully consider a visit, caretaker opportunity or move to the Washington, D.C. area.
Information to visit Services are held at 10:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. (EST/EDT) on Sunday. If you plan to visit, check the Apostolic Christian Churches and Ministers book for details and contact someone for planning purposes. To get to Washington, D.C., three major airports are available including Baltimore-Washington International which is nearest to the church.
