  Hope and Healing

Meet Zacchary

Hospital Lumiere
Zacchary - walking again
Hospital Lumiere has brought hope and healing to several individuals who have experienced unfortunate accidents.  Zacchary was a motorcycle taxi driver. He was brought to Hospital Lumiere following a collision involving his motorcycle and a truck. He sustained several injuries, including breaking both bones of both lower legs and his right forearm.

Zacchary spent about a year in the hospital following surgery to set bones and put external fixators in place to keep the bones relatively aligned.  After several bouts of infection and limited physical therapy, the fixators were removed. Zacchary walked for the first time after eleven months, using crutches and walking casts for assistance.

Zacchary returned to his home in Les Cayes, last January.  As they were leaving for home, his wife pushed his wheel chair through the halls of the Hospital. Several patients and staff bade the 'President', as he became known, farewell.  It was doubtful that he would walk unassisted again.  Throughout the months following, Zacchary returned to the hospital so his progress could be evaluated.  Each time he returned for a checkup, he came with less support.  From wheel chair... to crutches and walking cast... to crutches... to one crutch... to walking with just the support of a cane.

Zacchary is always cheerful and encouraging.  He is determined to return to Hospital Lumiere without the use of a cane.  By the grace of God, he will.

  New Staff Appointment

HL Staff Bro. Daryl and Sis. Norma Luginbuhl of the Philadelphia Apostolic Christian congregation, have been appointed to serve at Hospital Lumiere. Bro. Daryl will serve as Facility Director at the hospital. Bro. Daryl is a project manager with many years of experience in the financial/insurance and pharmaceutical businesses. From his home in Philadelphia, Daryl has been serving as an interim facility renovation coordinator at Hospital Lumiere since August 2011.

The Luginbuhl's have gone through the Apostolic Christian World Relief and Mission Committee missionary pre-placement process, and have approval by the Church. They have four married children and 17 grandchildren. They plan to move to Haiti in January 2013 and have been assigned to reside on the campus of Hospital Lumiere. Haitian culture and Creole language training will be integrated into their schedule as Bro. Daryl assumes his duties as the hospital's Facility Director.

As the Luginbuhl's considered the opportunity to serve in Haiti, God's leading was evident as He provided a solid grounding in faith. Bro Daryl shares that the full assurance of His promise to abide with them was given to them through Genesis 28:15... "And behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places wither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of."

The Luginbuhl's are thankful for the opportunity to serve, and covet your prayers as they go through this time of transition.

Thank you for your support for Hospital Lumiere. As the need for assistance is both immediate, and likely will continue well into the future, please prayerfully consider how God has laid it on your heart to serve the Haitian people, those for whom Christ died.

But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.
