25 Baptized/New Church Planted
MUR's church planting team, combined with 20 of our Boot Camp graduates, has done it again thanks to God's blessing their efforts. Pictured here is Nestor Snchez, one of Baxter's fourth year students during his practicum with us, with some of the 25 people who were baptized this month. This campaign was held in a small community near San Juan de Opoa, Copn, which is about a thirty minute drive from Santa Rosa de Copn. Carlos Orellana, who is one of our Boot Camp graduates, is seen in this picture praying over Nestor before he preaches.
Contamal is the community where Carlos and his wife Yeni grew up. They live there and he travels back and forth to Santa Rosa where he works as a carpenter for Jorge Rosa who is a member of the church here. Carlos, with his training in our Boot Camps, is now working as a self supporting evangelist in this newly planted church in his community.
Above is a picture of two young women who were among the 25 baptized during the week. |
International Youth Workers' Summit
This past month Jon and Stacy, who head up our Youth Ministry team here in the local church, along with our MUR staff members that work in that ministry, were able to attend a Summit meeting in Tegucigalpa that greatly inspired them.
This is the first time, in our knowledge, that the churches of Christ have organized an event of this caliber in Central America and we are grateful that our team was able to participate. Jon and Stacy are doing a great job with this ministry that is having a transformational impact on the youth in our community.

4x4 Vehicle For Village Evangelism Santos, who is one of our Boot Camp graduates, was walking hours to and from his home to lead the evangelistic efforts in the new church plant in Torihuaque. So we acquired a new 4x4 vehicle to loan him in order to allow him to be more effective in his efforts. All kidding aside MUR owns the horse and saddle while brother Santos has to provide the maintenance. He grows fruits and vegetables and sells them door to door to support himself. |
Dr. Dan Doak and Boot Camp
We enjoyed hosting Dr. Dan Doak and his wife Bobbi, from Parkersburg, WV this month. Dr. Doak was one of the teachers in a week long Boot Camp.
There were 35 men in attendance which is the largest single group that we have had in attendance at any one time. We thank God for the growth of this ministry.
We appreciate so much Dr. Doak and his wife Bobbi coming so that he could work with us in this important ministry.
Please join us in thanking God for His protection over this couple. As one of our MUR drivers was taking them back to the airport he had to swerve to miss a car that suddenly pulled out onto the highway and stopped dead still. ngel, our best and most experienced driver, could not swerve into the other lane because of oncoming traffic. Because of his skill and experience he was able to thread his way through people, buses and parked cars without injuring anyone. Unfortunately,Donna's personal car that he was driving at the time was totaled.
ngel, Dan and Bobbi were all bumped and bruised but not injured seriously. And for that we thank God for His protection.

A Note from Donna
Phil, Laura, and I had the privilege of visiting beautiful Denver, CO this month. We were invited and hosted by the University Church of Christ and participated in their first Mission Summit. It was wonderful to hear what others are doing both on a local level as well as internationally. We were so blessed to be able to share very specifically with the congregation about the things God is doing in western Honduras and then to be honored and prayed over by the elders. It is hard to express what it means to us to know that we have other Christians praying for us and doing what they can to join us in our mission here. The hospitality and love extended to us by the family at University will encourage us for many days to come. While in Denver, we were able to connect with Bob and Kelly Brown and their family after not seeing them for many years. Bob and Kelly mentored us before and during our years in Mxico and are Kingdom heroes in our eyes!
