April 2013
Vol. 6, No. 4
  Greetings!

You will notice how full our newsletter is this month!  We have included lots of photos because they really bring to life the impact of all that has gone on this past month.

As we send this newsletter out, we are in the beginning days of another evangelistic campaign in a village where we hope to plant the second new congregation this year.  We would appreciate your specific prayers for those who will hear the Good News this week, that it might impact them in a transformational way and bring glory to our gracious God.

Another specific prayer request is for Donna's travel this coming week with

Cindy Mendez.  They will leave Tegucigalpa on Tuesday, the 9th and head to Tampa for a follow up visit with her surgeon.  Once again, the Berry family will be hosting Cindy as she gets her new prosthesis and the needed therapy over the next few months.

Blessings,

Phil and Donna Waldron

Howard Norton & Boot Camp
  Howard teaching

What a blessing it was for us this month to host Dr. Howard Norton, who has recently retired from his post as President of the Baxter Institute in Tegucigalpa. He taught in one of our week-long intensive Boot Camp sessions with 27 men present for the training.

Dr. Norton was also able to visit with our church planting team, which consists of Baxter Institute alumni. The men were very much encouraged by his visit as well as by the wisdom that he was able to share with them as they plied him with questions about their experiences in their work in planting new churches in the area.

Rick Odell, Youth Minister at the West Ark church of Christ, in Ft. Smith, AR organized and brought a group of 31 people to work with us this past month. They completed a classroom for a school in an impoverished neighborhood as one of their projects.

They also did VBS in some of the public schools that our DESEO program works in.

They left a memorable impression along with a classroom that will help to educate hundreds of children over the coming years.

Eyeglass and Dental Brigade

Kory and patient

Dr. Kory Cummings, who is an optometrist, and Dr. Scott Bedichek, who is a dentist, along with some other people from the Southside Church of Christ in Ft. Worth, TX came and held a combined Eye Glasses and Dental brigade in the community of San Ramón, Talgua, Lempira.

This is a community that we have targeted as one of the communities in which we are hoping to plant a new church. Both, eyeglasses and dental attention are very much needed in this rural, village community.

Fitting eyeglasses using low-tech technology is the best way that we have found to serve this demographic group.

Three From Auburn

While the Southside group was here we also hosted three Auburn University Pharmacy students. Our Mission UpReach staff RN, Ashley Miller, knew these girls and made the connection between MUR and their group.

While here these three young women helped out in the brigade as well as toured various hospitals and clinics gathering information on the how the health system functions here. We hope to see them again in the future perhaps with a larger group of their fellow Auburn alumni.

VCOM
VCOM

The Spartanburg, SC campus of the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) was back once again this past month with a general medicine clinic in various villages in our region. They attended to a total of six hundred and fifty patients.

A Note from Donna
     Wendi and group

In addition to all the other groups we hosted this past month, we also had a couple of special education teachers from the Pinetree Church of Christ come and work for a week with a special needs school in Santa Rosa. The above picture is of the teachers receiving some special training as well as supplies to use in their classrooms. This school has children with a variety of needs and the teachers have little or no training to handle the special cases. Wendi Gibbs and Linda Pike, both special education specialists, gave up their spring break to help these ladies implement some ideas into their classrooms, making life better for them as well as their students.

It means a lot to us when folks like Wendi and Linda see a need, recognize that God has prepared them to respond to it, and then act. It reminds me of the parable of the talents and encourages all of us to ask if we are investing our talents in the way God would have us to. May God bless you as you do!

Donated Vehicle

In our last newsletter we shared Mission UpReach's need for donations of used, 4x4 mid size, extended cab pickups for our church planting team.

We are thrilled to share with you this month that we have already received one donation of this type of vehicle in response to our plea. If you know of someone who has a vehicle of this type, 2001 or newer, that might be willing to donate it please let us know. You can contact Phil directly via email at: philwaldron@me.com

Cindy Mendez Back to Shriners
Cindy

We were back in Tegucigalpa this past month getting a new visa for Cindy Mendez so that she will be able to return to Shriners in Tampa, FL for repair and adjustments on her prosthesis. She is growing and maturing in a positive way in spite of her challenges.
