March 2014
ISSUE 41

March.  What an apt name for the call to action we RiverQuest guides hustle to heed this month!

Flies tied and ordered? Check! Rods and reels purchased and prepped? Check! Boats examined and brought up to snuff, bow to stern? Check!  US Coast Guard vessel inspections scheduled?  Check!  State of Michigan boat registration and commercial launch permits paid and stickers affixed?  Check! The Warren, Michigan, Midwest Fly Fishing Expo attended and RiverQuest/Muskegon River Lodge booth manned this upcoming weekend-March 7-9?  Check!  Captain Steve all set for his presentations at the show entitled, "Getting Results on the Swing." Check!  Float trips and Muskegon River Lodge bookings added day-to-day? Check!

2014 fly fishing on the MO; stays at the Muskegon River Lodge: bring it on!  We're fired up and can't wait to host customers long-standing and new.  Our pledge:  to give you our best each and every day. Steelhead course the river even now preparing for their spawn soon to come. Resident rainbow and brown trout await an egg buffet sure to fatten and sustain. Now, all we need is a gradual thaw so the knee-high snow blanketing the river banks melts at a moderate, manageable rate.  No doubt, with the snowpack we have, we're a bit on edge: sustained day after day rains and high temps could blow the river out despite the Muskegon's three hydro dams which temper rapid rises in the level of the river.

So, prep and hope; that's our mantra these days.  But then, isn't that what fly fishing is all about anyway?  Here's hoping you can get away to join us for some Muskegon River "re-creation" with the long rod and a great stay at our Orvis endorsed Muskegon River Lodge.

If you are in the Detroit area this weekend, consider attending the Midwest Fly Fishing Expo: http://www.midwestflyfishingexpo.com/  We would love to meet you and talk fly fishing. While there, take in Steve's  presentation. As we learn more and more about swinging flies with Spey switch, and single-handed rods, we gain knowledge about tackle setups, presentations, and flies that make all the difference in one's success. Steve will lay it all out for you.
