Our Spey School is only a few short weeks away, and we still have room for a couple more students. Don't miss this opportunity to experience a facet of fly fishing that will kindle a new-found passion in your quest for chrome steelhead--just as it has done for me!

Capt. Steven Kuieck

Pete Spey Clave Muskegon River Lodge Spey School  September 5-8, 2013

RiverQuest Charters and the Muskegon River Lodge are pleased to offer a three day Spey casting school. Designed for fly fishermen who desire to learn to Spey cast from top Spey casting instructors and then imbed the skills they've learned so that at the close of the class, the fishermen are river ready, the Muskegon River Lodge Spey Casting School is a unique learning experience. Syllabus

With two instructors, one of whom is a nationally recognized Spey casting teacher and the other a professional fly fishing guide who teaches Spey casting on the Muskegon River and with a limit of six (6) students, the school seeks to give enrollees a level of Spey casting expertise beyond that produced in day schools. Spey casting is challenging, but with three days of instruction, coaching, and on stream practice, students will finish the class competent and comfortable with the Spey rod - just in time for the fall steelhead run on the Muskegon. Here is what a couple of last years students had to say:

"I attended Spey School 2012 at the Muskegon River Lodge September 7th-9th.I had fished with Steve Kuieck and his guides on several occasions prior to the Spey School so I knew in advance that the school would be excellent. Peter Humphreys is certainly a world class instructor and Steve is not far behind. The in-river and on-boat instruction was excellent. I had read books, watched DVD's a thousand times and tried to learn on my own for a couple years. I learned and progressed more in 3 days at the school than I had in over 2 years on my own. My understanding and casting ability increased exponentially in 3 short days. The lodge and food were outstanding as well. I am returning to fish with them this fall and hopefully will get a chance to work with Peter and Steve again."

"I recently attended a Spey casting school through RiverQuest Charters and the Muskegon River Lodge from Sept. 6th through the 9th 2012. Hands down this is the best Spey casting/ fly fishing school I have ever experienced. Peter Humphreys and Capt. Kuieck were the hosts of this class and provided a perfect learning experience. They really took the time with each student to make sure there were no questions left unanswered and they never once rushed through any of the topics. Even though there were several students in the class they spent ample one-on-one time with each student. They really made sure that I walked away from the class being comfortable and confident with a Spey rod; from the casting all the way to fly selection. The class truly covered everything Spey to include line repair on the water, choosing the right sink tip, water conditions and temps, line management, shooting line, casting from a jet sled, fly section, reading water, and more. If you really want to learn the proper way to swing flies with a Spey rod then this is the class. You won't find better instructors than Peter Humphreys and Capt. Kuieck.
Nor will you find better accommodations. If you've never stayed at the Muskegon River Lodge you don't know what you're missing. The lodge is beautiful and situated in a private secluded setting with plenty of river frontage. And, with Chef Heather Allen preparing the meals you will never leave hungry. She prepared the best steak I have ever eaten in my life. Her culinary skills are truly incredible. Chef Allen's cooking and staying at the lodge are worth the trip alone. RiverQuest Charters and the Muskegon River Lodge are first class all the way!"
