Sunday, Dec 7 Prohibition & Repeal Day Party The Plant - 4-6pm This workshop explores what Prohibition reveals about the cultural energies and desires brought into greater relief through repression. That is: Prohibition, a historical episode, actualized a philosophical attitude. Tonight we'll endeavor to understand that attitude by examining its origins and antitheses in a thinking and drinking party that commemorates the Repeal of the Volstead Act on December 5, 1933.

Soapmaking Workshop
with Shaun Hundley
THIS SUNDAY at Perch Studios from 1-4:30pm
Not all soap is made equal. Most soap today is actually detergents, highly processed and dries your skin out. Cold process soap is the method that has been used for over millennia and leaves in that all-important glycerin! In this 3-hour class you will learn how cold process soap making works and get hands on experience as you make your own personalized one pound batch of soap that you get to take home to use or share.
Come join us as we learn the basics of batching the soap as well as a few flourishes like marbling, layering and accent lines. You will get to personalize your soap by a selection of colors, scents and which ever flourishes you like as you pour your own one pound batch. Whether you are a weekend warrior, veteran DIYer, homesteader/farmer or just looking for something fun and new to do, then this class is for you. No special equipment will be needed and all materials are provided. Participants will go home with 3 bars of cold pressed soap, equaling around 1 lb. of soap.
Participants will work with the following oils
- Canola: producers softer soap and stable lather
- Coconut: producers harder, white soap with a little less lather
- Palm: producers a harder soap with stable lather and a silky feel
- Tallow: beef fat with similar properties of palm oil
This is our first workshop in this space as part of our new partnership with Perch Studios at 204 W. Main St., Carrboro, NC.

Carrboro Farmers' Market celebrates pepper season at the first-ever People's Peppers with local food writer Sheri Castle on September 20th
Market shoppers can try fresh, roasted and fried peppers as well as taste and vote on three finalist pepper recipes from the People's Peppers Recipe Contest. Steel String Brewery will be sampling beer, Con Acento will provide live Latin groove pop, and customers can enter a free raffle for a pair of tickets to the Abundance Foundation's Pepper Festival!
Carrboro, NC - The Carrboro Farmers' Market will celebrate the variety and abundance of peppers at its first-ever People's Peppers event on September 20th with sampling, music, and a raffle!
Peppers have a longer season than many other Market vegetables, and come in a huge diversity of shapes, sizes, colors, flavors, and amount of heat! Market farmers have the whole spectrum covered with over 40 kinds of peppers, from super spicy to juicy and sweet with varieties like Habanero, Serrano, Padron, Aji Dulce, Shishito, Carmen, Mary Jemison, Jimmy Nardello, Revolution, Tequila, Gold Rush, Yummy, and more!
Starting at 8:30am, local cookbook author Sheri Castle and Market volunteers will be serving samples of fresh peppers, roasted peppers, and three finalist pepper recipes, selected by Sheri Castle from the People's Peppers recipe contest. Market shoppers will vote on their favorite recipe to select a winner, and all the pepper recipe submissions for the contest will be immortalized in a People's Peppers mini-cookbook that will be available for sale at the event. Con Acento will keep everyone moving with some acoustic Latin grooves! All samples will be available while supplies last.
Pepper enthusiasts can celebrate peppers all fall long! The Abundance Foundation's 7th Annual Amazing Pepper Festival will be held on October 5th from 3pm-7pm, and the People's Peppers at the Market will include a FREE raffle for two pairs of tickets to PepperFest!
