Greetings!
It is hard to believe it is March 2013 already. Next week the time changes and we will see more of the sun. During this time of Spring and the planting of seeds of growth, I would ask you to consider becoming a member of NAMI Clermont County. Many lives have been touched by our support groups, meetings and classes. Many members of our community have found value in what we do every day.
Your membership is critical in allowing the voice of NAMI Clermont County to be heard. If you have attended a class, or a monthly meeting, and found some benefit, I would urge you to complete the on-line membership application. It is through joining together as members during this time of increased awareness about mental health that we can rally our forces and give voice to the ground swell supporting mental health.
Please click the link below and join NAMI today.

Legal Issues: Do you have any rights?
A discussion of the legal issues and questions surrounding adult family members who have a mental illness. Some commonly asked questions which will be addressed:
- What does HIPPA mean to me and my loved one?
- Involuntary commitment-is it an option?
- What should I do when the police arrive?
- Why can't the doctor talk to me?
- What can I do when my loved one won't take their medication?
Learn what your rights are and understand the rights of your family member.
Mr. Wasserman worked at the Legal Aid Society of Cincinnati for 25 years on mental health funding and delivery issues. His personal experience comes from having a 29 year old son with bipolar disorder who has had repeated hospitalizations and experience with all the systems involved with mental health - guardianship, civil commitment, mental health court, Social Security disability,
Medicare/Medicaid, hospitalization at area hospitals and Summit. He currently volunteers with NAMI Hamilton County by taking referrals of people with questions related to all of the above.

President Obama supports mental health
..........................................................................................................
President Barack Obama wants to arm school employee's with mental health training. The president's plan centers largely on training teachers and others who work with children, teens and young adults to recognize mental illness as it's developing.
"I think this is really putting the focus on children's mental health as a child issue," says Dr. Paramjit Joshi, the president-elect of the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. She notes that "about 50 percent of lifetime mental illness starts before the age of 14."
