God is good. He walks with us during our good times and bad times. We just need to remember to keep him close.

I previously had difficulty understanding God's instructions in the Sermon on the Mount, specifically his instruction not to worry. We grow up worrying. From a young age, we start to worry. We worry if we will sink in a pool, even while wearing a life jacket. We worry if our classmates will like us. We worry if we will make an A in our Chemistry class, and if we will get into the college we prefer. As we age, we worry if we are dating the right person, selecting the best job, and if we can pay our bills. We may worry if we will have health insurance with budget cuts, and if we are raising our children to be followers of God. I am a small-business owner, and I sometimes worry if I can pay payroll.

I believe I have a better understanding of his instructions now (yes, after 50 years!) The definition of worry is to "give way to anxiety or unease; allow one's mind to dwell on difficulty or troubles." Remember, God is telling us in Matthew 6:24-34 not to worry, or give way to our anxiety. He does not mean that we should not address and reflect on our issues. But rather than fretting and fearing for the worst, give the issues to God and walk with him during those times. Pray for guidance. He alone can help us through our obstacles, no matter how large or small they may be.

Dear God, please help me remember that you are in control. I understand that doesn't mean it will always be an easy path, but you will be there with me, along the way. Please help me remember to seek your guidance, and even more so, to listen to what you tell me. You are always good. Amen.

Orange: This week is VBS!!  Please pray for ALL of the children and volunteers that will be in our church this week.  Laughter, joy, excitement, curiosity... all of these and more will be filling the halls of WFPC this week!  Pray that each and every person will feel God's love and learn more about Him this week!!
tenTen Summer Sundays
This summer, Sundays will look a bit different at WFPC. From July 2 through September 3, we will gather together from 9:00 - 10:00 in the CLC for fellowship and an intergenerational discipleship opportunity. At 10:15, we will hold a combined worship service in the sanctuary. We have some wonderful plans for you, including guest preachers, special music, and hands-on opportunities for all ages. Look for the insert in this week's (and next week's) bulletin for a full schedule, including worship and discipleship themes for each week!
heartsPocket Prayer Hearts
Do you crochet and like really easy projects that make people happy? We are creating small prayer hearts to be included in our M2M boxes. The hearts will be attached to a card similar to our Pocket Prayer Squares, letting each service member know that they are loved and that God is available anytime, anywhere! The pattern is just 2 rounds, and copies are available in our basket in the Narthex or by clicking here. This is a great project for all those half-used balls of yarn you've been collecting! For more information, contact Leslie Olmo at [email protected].
morningswithchristNew Study This Fall!
Plan to join Mornings With Christ for "Entrusted: A Study of 2 Timothy" by Beth Moore. In this 6-session study, we will be encouraged to guard what God has entrusted to us and to pour into future generations just as Paul once mentored Timothy.  Classes will begin September 13.  Our group meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM.  For more information and to order a study guide, please contact Loretta Highfield at [email protected]
pkJune Premise Keepers
Premise Keepers will meet tomorrow, Saturday, June 24. Please plan to join us for breakfast in the CLC at 8 AM, and then we'll get started on some maintenance and repair tasks around the WFPC campus. No experience necessary! Contact Jon Gutekunst at [email protected] with questions.

Wheels4Hope
Wheels4Hope is a faith-based, non-profit car donation organization that repairs donated cars and recycles them back into our community. Their mission is to provide affordable, reliable transportation to economically vulnerable families and individuals throughout the Triangle. Wheels4Hope partners with 39 area referral agencies that promote the self-sufficiency of their clients through employment, housing, and educational programs. Program cars are donated vehicles in sound mechanical condition and are valued in the $2,500 to $4,000 range. Area congregations support Wheels4Hope by providing volunteers, board members, public awareness, car donations, and financial support. Volunteers are needed to pick up donated cars and drive them to and from Wheels4Hope partner garages. Mechanics and car enthusiasts are also needed to assess and repair donated vehicles.

How can you help this ministry? First of all, consider donating a car to Wheels4Hope (even if they can't use it, they will sell it) and get a charitable contribution credit. Second, you can volunteer your time and talents in varying capacities within the Wheels4Hope organization. Finally, you can help by offering financial support. For more information, or to join the WFPC Wheels4Hope team, contact Kevin Sharpe at [email protected].

Second Adult Mission Opportunity
Due to the continued need for Hurricane Matthew relief in Eastern NC, the session has approved a second adult mission trip, and it will be Sunday, October 22, through Friday/Saturday, October 27/28. We are exploring our destination options right now, but if you are interested, and the spring is not an ideal time for you, this is your chance! Please contact Judy Finch Ide at [email protected] to advise of your interest.

Prostate Cancer
  • Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer among men.
  • More than 90 percent of all prostate cancers are discovered when they are confined to the prostate or are nearby.
  • The survival rate for men diagnosed with prostate tumors discovered at these stages is nearly 100 percent -- all the more reason men should be screened annually.
