May is National Physical Fitness and Sports month. I think we would all agree that sports are part of our national heritage. Many of us have favorite local, college and/or national sports teams. But do we know as much about what it takes to be physically fit as we know about our favorite team? Being physically fit is a key requisite for a healthy life. Visit this website click here to find how much physical activity you need at any age, how to measure the intensity of physical activity and suggestions for adding physical activities to your life. Be sure to check out the link on the site to the many benefits of physical activity. Time to get moving!

Knit and Crochet Ministry Update
Wow! We are reaching our goals with your help! We are hoping to provide 200 scarves for Wake County children this coming Fall. You have already turned out 84 scarves! Thank you for your generous donations of yarn and time. We are also hoping to provide 100 men's winter hats for the homeless in downtown Raleigh in September. If you are interested in starting a project, joining us, or have questions, please contact Leslie Olmo, [email protected]. Or if you just have a bunch of yarn lying around that you want to get rid of, we will take it! Donations may be placed in or beside our basket at the front desk in the Narthex. Thanks for your amazing support!
Greetings!

Can you believe it is already May?  It feels like 2015 is just flying by.  As I reflect on the first four months of this year, there are several "cool things" that float to the top of my thoughts.  The debt reduction effort is a great story.  To date we have around $450,000 in commitments.  That is INCREDIBLE and such a testament to the giving spirit of our church family.  There are several covenant groups starting with many different focus areas.  The generous time commitment from the leaders of these groups is awesome. VBS is starting up soon.  Yet another example of the commitment of time, treasures and talents our church family provides.  Wonderful things are truly happening.

There are so many different types of opportunities to engage in the church that it "blows my mind" at times.  The point is: find something that excites you, something that you have a passion for and just dive right in.  Do you feel like you are uncertain as to what spiritual gifts you have to offer?  Well, here is a thought - ask God.  That does have a way of working.  Side note, I did ask God if I had a talent for singing.  I believe he answered when my wife, in no uncertain terms, continuously request me to "stop making that awful (to me joyful) noise.

We are blessed with so many talents.  The Lord wants us to find a way to use each of our own special talents and share those to glorify Him.

As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace - 1 Peter 4:10

Alan Perry - your humble (and tone deaf) Finance and Generosity Elder.

His Kids Caf will be open this Sunday, May 17.  The Sunday school teachers are the waiters/waitresses and the kids are the guests.  They will be served a "gourmet" breakfast in honor of them feeding SIXTEEN families in South Africa.  They have donated $160 to our Thusanang project since Easter.  They will also be entertained by the teachers racing each other on SCOOTERS!!!

VBS...is only six weeks away! Register now to volunteer and/or have your child participate. Click here for the website link to Registration.

WFPC Front Desk /
Office Volunteer

There is an immediate need for a Front Desk / Office volunteer for the Narthex of our church on Wednesday afternoon, from 1:00-4:00 PM. The office staff relies on volunteers to greet visitors, answer phones, and handle light office duties during the week. It is important to have someone at the desk each day to be the "face of WFPC". Please consider sharing your time in this vital role. Contact Lucy Deeprose, Office Volunteer Coordinator, at [email protected] or let any staff member know of your interest.

WFPC Youth Group Activities

HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE GRADUATES, we want to recognize you and your accomplishment. Please send the following information to be printed in the church bulletin: Graduate's Name, Parents' Names, School/College from which you are Graduating and plans for next year. The details should be sent to Director of Youth Ministries Amy Donahoo at [email protected]. We would also like a photograph to post in the Narthex and Christian Life Center. This photo can be emailed or put in Amy's mailbox in the church office. The submission deadline is Sunday May 24. Graduates will be recognized on May 31.

Come see the amazing talent here at WFPC Sunday night! The annual Spaghetti Supper and Talent Show starts at 5:30 pm in the Christian Life Center.  The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children, with a family cap of $30. All proceeds benefit the High School Youth Group trips to Belize, Washington DC, Raleigh and Montreat. Raffle tickets will be on sale for a chance to win some awesome prizes.

Starting Memorial Day weekend, the High School and Middle School Sunday School classes will COMBINE. Both age groups should meet at 10 am on Sundays in the Youth Room. This schedule will continue through Labor Day. Questions? Email Amy Donahoo at [email protected].

 American Red Cross
    Blood Drive

American Red Cross Blood Drives have been a part of the mission of WFPC since 1996. The next WFPC blood drive is Sunday, May 31  (NOT June 7 as may have previously been publicized!!) This important ministry, which gives the gift of life to so many, needs your help. How can you participate?  Sign up to be a blood donor in the WFPC Copy Room or online through the Red Cross at Click Here  using sponsor code WFPC. If you signed up at the blood drive in February, please log on to confirm your appointment or contact Amanda McCabe at [email protected]. Our goal for this drive is 120 units of blood, and we need you to meet that goal.

Not keen on donating blood, please consider donating snacks or volunteering for a couple of hours to assist with the Blood Drive.  You can sign up in the Copy Room or online at Click Here.

Childcare will be provided throughout the afternoon, as will yummy snacks and great fellowship. We are also hoping to add a couple of people to our leadership team. Specifically, we are looking for a Canteen Coordinator (that is a fancy word for the Little Debbie snack table activities), Logistics Coordinator (that is set up and take down) and Donation Day Coordinators (that is overall supervision of donation day activities). Contact Ed Pulliam at [email protected] if you would like to volunteer or have questions.

Premise Keepers

The PKs were a small but dedicated group on the 25th and despite our thin ranks, we accomplished an impressive list of projects!! In addition to the completed items done by John Wiles, Don Steele, Hugh Terrell, and their teams, Jim Ward, Hank Patrick and Robert Deeprose are wrapping up some efforts to be sure our emergency lighting, exit signs and elevator lighting are in order. Also in progress are projects underway by Paul Buda and Wayne Moore to repair and replace parts of our modular decking and rails. Jim Duguid power washed the underside of the breezeway and Hugh Terrell safety checked the two playgrounds. Fred Drinkard got a lot done on his installation of the system to secure wifi network. Several smaller projects were concluded including moving some cabinets for the youth ministries folks to use as well as enhancing the security lighting around the campus. And finally, Si Seiler will be repairing the handicapped ramp once he catches up on his 'honey do' list that grew while he was on the mission trip to NJ. Thanks be to God for their effort and commitment to the PK ministry team and WFPC! REMINDER - there isn't an official PK work day in May, but if you have some spare moments, let me know and I'll share the "list" with you! JS
