Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network
The Mission and Outreach ministry team would like to thank everyone who has volunteered to help with WIHN this week! We are having a great week and everything is going smoothly. Our WFPC and WIHN families are being continuously blessed by our experiences together! We started the week with five families for a total of 11 people, 6 of which are kids (3 boys and 3 girls) ranging from 5 years to 16 years. Family #1: Michele and her son Isaiah (12); Family #2: LaShanda and her son Levi (8); Crystal and her daughter Fredrikka (16); Family #4: Cierra and her daughter Jazmine (8) and son Javen (5); and Family #5: Gail and her daughter Renejah (7). Gail and her daughter Renejah will be leaving the WIHN program transitioning into the Transition to Permanent Housing Program on Wednesday and we are expecting a new family to join us on Thursday. Sabrina and her family, son Sergio (8) and daughter Serenity (1 1/2). Again, we appreciate each and every one of you!! And don't miss Sharon Kucyk's on line diary!!

The Thusanang Care Group
The Thusanang (means
help one another) Care Group was started in 1986 in Winterveldt, an extremely poor area in South Africa and home to 500,000 people with no running water or electricity. Unemployment is extremely high. And the homes are made of mud brick or corrugated iron shacks.
This ministry provides food parcels to about 800 families in this area that are completely destitute. Most families consisting of grandparents, parents and a number of children are completely without income. Some of the people in this area earn a small amount of money by sorting garbage for recycling.

The care group also provides the women with lessons in basic health and young men and women are offered training in Red Cross First Aid and basic home care. It also supplements the food parcels by helping the people of Winterveldt to become a little more independent by teaching them to make small gardens that will yield vegetables within 6 weeks of seeds being sown.

Food parcels contain maize meal, soy mice, sugar beans, brown sugar, and powdered milk, providing the basic food necessities for a family of four for one month. Each parcel costs about $10 U.S.
At WFPC we ask our members to prayerfully consider making donations that are sent to these South African families. A check of just $60 can help to feed a family of four for six months! We also collect donations for this hunger ministry through our Sunday School classes - helping to create awareness among our adults and children of this part of the world that is in such great need. Also through our Sunday School classes, our WFPC children have started to correspond with the African children of Winterveldt, who have responded with moving notes of appreciation for our help. Adults - Sally & Charlie Gadd  [email protected]

WFPC Debt Elimination
As you continue to prayerfully consider how much you are willing to commit to help eliminate the $1.3M debt of WFPC, please remember the following.  Your contributions should be above the general fund contributions in which you have already pledged. There are several ways to make your pledge. You may turn in your commitment cards in the Sunday morning offerings, mail to the Church office or turn in to Debbie Choplin's box in the administrative area. We would like to receive your commitments by February 15 so we can monitor our progress. If you have already pledged thank you. As you may make your contributions you may do so in several ways, by check in the church offering or you may make your contributions on line on WFPC's website.  If you are contributing appreciated stock, mutual funds etc., please call the church office for directions of how to make the transfer.

WFPC Knitting Ministry!

If you have been knitting or crocheting for our Scarf Drive, this is for you!
Thanks to all knitters and crocheters who made scarves and continue to participate in our Scarf Drive, which is ongoing. Having made around 100 hand knit or crocheted scarves in 2014, we challenge all knitters and crocheters to help us double that amount in 2015. With 1800 needy school kids in Wake County to outfit with warm clothing needs in the Fall, the need is there! Right now our total number of completed scarves, knitted or crocheted for 2015 is 20. Please help if you can!
The Knitting Ministry is for knitters OR crocheters. Meetings are once a month, the 2nd Monday at 1:15 pm to 2:30 pm in Room B106 in the CLC. One does not have to be a member to participate in this ministry. Completed scarves can be dropped off in the basket near the Front Desk in the Narthex.
Need a pattern? Contact persons are Nancy Bates at [email protected] or Leslie Olmo at [email protected]
Thanks for your support!

Bereavement Care

As God's people, we are called to help each other in time of need.  Whether there is a birth, illness or a death, we at WFPC are aware of the increasing need to reach out with Christian love and concern to our families.

Did you know that through the Bereavement Care Team WFPC provides to all members a funeral service and reception at no cost?  Wake Forest Presbyterian is a caring community of faith that seeks this opportunity to support our church family in times of a loss.

If you are interested in helping with the Bereavement Care Team please contact, Sandie Buda at [email protected].

The purpose of the team is to allow the Pastor and the church office to continue with the day to day work of the Church while members of the Bereavement Care Team follow the guidelines and move the funeral process forward in an orderly manner.

Greetings!

In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.' - Acts 20:35

2014 was certainly an exciting and generous year.  Our 2014 commitment season was a great success.  We have kicked off the debt elimination drive.  We had a generous outpouring of time to support the numerous ministries and programs.  We were fortunate to be blessed with John Fawcett joining our "flock".  OK, he actually did not start until 2015; however all the work was done in 2014.

Giving.  That is what we do, and are called to do, as Christians.  As you know, the pleasure and satisfaction we receive by a generous heart is remarkable. But remember, our Father asks us to do this and his blessings will flow because of it.

Time is a precious commodity.  Family, work and church commitments seem to be very heavy at times.  Everyone's plate is overflowing and it just feels like more is being "heaped" on it.  We try to focus on the "important" items and then become a little "stressed" when we just cannot make it all happen.  Often times at work I find myself on yet another conference call, reviewing emails and instant messaging all at the same time (with my cell phone ringing yet again in the background).  I am sure many of you face similar situations.  So what does a person do?  Remember to focus on the most important aspects of your life... your family and your faith.

So here I am asking you to continue to give, to be generous of your time, talents and treasures.  This is important; important to give back to our heavenly Father, for he has given so much to us.  We have many talented individuals in our church family with abundant and wonderful gifts to offer.  Find something that excites you and participate.  I can attest to the fact that what I give is rewarded many times over by what I receive.

Prayer:

Lord thank you for your wonderful gifts, thank you for giving your most precious gift, Jesus.  Remind us to focus on the important areas of our life.  Calm us during stressful times.  Amen

 Women's Ministry Quiz!

Are you a woman?  If yes, are you friendly?  If yes, are you at least one of the following: organized, enthusiastic, willing, or able?  If yes, we need you!  The Women's Ministry Team is planning some fun events and outreach for 2015.  We had a great time last year at the Ladies' Lemonade and Vintage Christmas.  If you would enjoy working with these kinds of activities, we would love to have you on our team!  All talents are welcome - we can use anything from more involved activity planners to preparations to some extra helping hands at our events.  Our first event will be coming up in March, so if you would like to join us or have questions, please contact Leslie Olmo at (919)435-0818 or [email protected]

The kids of WFPC (ages 4 through 5th grade) are invited to join us for His Kids Worship service.
Children will be ushered to the sanctuary from the 9 am Praise Service by our His Kids Worship volunteers.  Parents may pick up their children in the sanctuary by 9:55 AM, or we will be happy to take your child to his/her Sunday school class in Modular 2.
