Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network
Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network (WIHN) - WFPC will host homeless families at our church three times in 2014, providing food, shelter, transportation and hospitality to 4 - 5 families. WIHN provides professional case management for these families as they work to restore their independence. A network of churches houses and feeds the families and transports them back and forth to the WIHN center in Raleigh where they are provided with day care or transportation to school for their children, transitional housing and job placement assistance, and counseling, as needed. Many volunteers are needed each time we host to set up the facilities, prepare food, provide fellowship and transportation and spend the night at the church. The next hosting dates are Sunday, January 25, 2015 through Sunday, February 1,2015.

You can sign up online here, or contact Sharon Kucyk at [email protected] or Kathy Drake at [email protected]
or 919-570-1100 for more information.

WFPC Debt Elimination

Did you know that if each member of the church(there are about 750) would donate the cost of 2 Chick-fil-a meals at $5 each over the next three years the debt of the church could be paid off? By now you have all received your commitment cards and over the next several weeks you may turn those in to either the church office(Debbie Choplin's office), turn them into the offering plate on Sunday or mailing them to the church.

By breaking down the amounts over a 3 year period we can get the debt paid off. We ask that you prayerfully consider what you may give to eliminate the burden that the church has carried on far too long. If over 3 years we can have:

25 families commit $20,000 at
  approximately $129/week
30 families commit $10,000 at

  approximately   $65/week

50 families commit   $5,000 at

  approximately   $32/week

60 families commit   $3,000 at

  approximately   $20/week

 70 families commit   $1,000 at

  approximately    $7/week

that would equal the $1,300,000 debt.

Parish Nurse Information
Parish Nurse
Did you know that there were 30 deaths from the flu in North Carolina during the week that was reported on Thursday, January 8, 2015? That brings our state's total number of flu deaths to 54, with 42 of those who have died being over the age of 65. Flu has reached epidemic levels in the United States and no one is sure how much longer this high level may last.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) encourages a "Take 3" action plan for individuals:
1. Get the flu vaccine; it's still not too late!
2. Take everyday preventive actions to stop the spread of germs. I have put a pump bottle of hand sanitizer in my car and use it frequently when I am shopping or otherwise out in public.
3. See your doctor promptly if you think you have the flu so that he can prescribe antiviral drugs to help reduce the length and intensity of flu symptoms. Stay home if you are sick. No one wants you to share your flu germs!
You can review additional information by clicking here. Stay well!
NOTE: Blood Pressure Checks will be performed on Sunday, January 25, 2015 in the Music Room after the 9 AM service and in the parlor after the 11:15 AM Service.

11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.14 I will be found by you," declares the Lord
, "and will bring you back from captivity." Jeremiah 29: 11-14

Often we (read "I") focus on this passage and don't read it in context. In Jeremiah 29:5-7, God tells the Israelites to: " "Build houses and settle down; plant gardens and eat what they produce. Marry and have sons and daughters; find wives for your sons and give your daughters in marriage, so that they too may have sons and daughters. Increase in number there; do not decrease. Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper."

God is telling the Israelites here that they must "keep on keeping on," they must "stay the course." They are not to sit around, do nothing, and wait to be delivered. God wants them to have an abundant life in their current situation as they await the future plans he has for them.

We all experience obstacles and trials. When we find ourselves in these situations we must not give up. We must do our part and continue living and being fruitful. God does have a plan for us, it just might not be on our schedule.

This passage always reminds me of the old joke where a woman down on her luck prays to God every night to send her a winning lottery ticket only to hear a voice from above a few nights later counseling her to "Work with me, honey, buy a ticket!"

2014 was a tough year for me. I loved my experiences as elder for Mission and Outreach. I love Rebekah and John and all the good things going on at WFPC but over all, 2014 was a year of grief and trials that I am glad is over. But, like the people to whom God was speaking in Jeremiah, I will stay the course and keep on doing everything I can to further God's kingdom on Earth. I will buy a ticket and I hope you will too! Blessings!
