Women's Discipleship Class    

A new Women's Discipleship Class continues this Sunday in Modular 1, Room 1 at 10:00 AM.   WFPC Men's Chorus

Writer's Needed!!



WFPC will be providing daily devotions during the Advent season written by the members of WFPC. We are looking for a few inspired folks to write a short devotion and prayer for one day of Advent. If you would like to participate, a sign-up sheet will be at the Worship Ministry table on Rally Day. There will be a calendar with the daily topic for you to select from.   Friday Morning Men's
 Bible Study


The Friday Morning Men's Bible Study Class will start back up on Friday, September 19th at 6:15 AM.  We'll be studying "Life Lessons from Jesus", by Bill Hybels and John Ortberg.  Please join us at 6:15 AM in the CLC as we gather for coffee, juice and breakfast foods and then meet for our study from 6:30 -7:30 AM.

Tell Me More Class!



The "Tell Me More" class will have another class starting on Sunday, September 21st and meets for four weeks at 10:00 AM in Modular 3, Room 2. If you have wondered what we do at WFPC and have thought about joining the church this class is for you. Congregational Meeting!!


CONGREGATIONAL MEETING: We will hold a Congregational Meeting on Sunday, September 28th following the 11:15 AM service for the purpose of electing Officers (Elders and Deacons) to serve WFPC beginning in January of 2015.

Adult Sunday School Class
"Stumbling Disciples"



This class with bring together all of Christ's "Stumbling Disciples"  for fellowship, scriptural readings and discussions, and guest speakers, all of which will be  accompanied by good old fashion casual adult conversation.  We will focus on who we are in Christ and how we can live a Christ focused life seeking to fulfill God's will.

This course is intended for individuals just beginning their journey with Christ, as well as  those who have been walking (or stumbling) with The Lord for many years. Our hope is to bring together a diverse group of individuals , with a variety of background and past life experiences (i.e. all of GOD's children!) with a common desire to draw nearer to The Lord.

 

Each class will stand on its own, so anyone can join the class on any Sunday without feeling "left behind."  We will strive to  have  an  energetic  and engaging class  where people feel relaxed and comfortable asking,  discussing, venting and talking about  Christian faith in everyday life. The class  will meet in room B-018 in  the CLC starting September 14 at 10:05am. Serendipity Bibles will be available  for purchase.

There are a lot of exciting things happening here at Wake Forest Presbyterian Church this fall. We will soon be entering into the season of Advent and recalling the power and presence of God in the Holy Spirit, we can continue to reflect and renew our commitment to serve and bear witness in our community and in the world. We have so much we can offer be it gifts, time or talent.

 

Since March 2014 the building debt elimination task force has been working on (1) Formulate a plan to pay off the debt on the current facilities and to (2) Assess our facility needs to better support our mission statement "Rooted in Christ growing together in faith and reaching out to others."

 

Our current mortgage is in excess of $1,300,000. But faithfulness with the resources that God has given us calls us to address this burden, freeing us to move forward in discipleship, mission, and fellowship together. As we move later into this year it will be time to consider budget planning for the next year in all areas of our Church.

 

What can you do to support this effort? First and foremost, pray for the task force as we seek God's direction for our congregation. Then prayerfully consider how you and your family can assist in reaching these two goals set for us by the Session.

Biography for
Dr. John H. LaMotte

WE ARE HONORED to have Dr. John LaMotte deliver the message at both services of worship on Sunday.  John, along with his wife Olivia, met in Montreat in 1952 while in college, and were married in 1955. Before they served as the organizing pastor of Wake Forest Presbyterian Church from 1991-1996, a period that John refers to as "the happiest five years of our ministry as we both put all we had into an experience that seemed to us to be right out of the Acts of the Apostles ." Besides their time at Wake Forest Presbyterian, they served a new church development in Oceana, WV; several congregations throughout Virginia, worked with Presbyterian Schools in Congo, Africa; pastored First Presbyterian Sarasota, Florida, while Olivia served as Moderator of the Synod of South Atlantic, and worked as a volunteer at the "Store Front Crisis Center." After retirement, they served several interims in Florida, South Carolina and North Carolina.  John and Olivia have four children: Kathy is a lawyer in Asheville, specializing in death penalty mitigation; John Jr., has recently qualified as a CNA; Margaret is the interim Pastor at Black Mountain Presbyterian Church; and David is a singer/songwriter who lives in Black Mountain but travels all over the world singing and doing workshops on peacemaking. John and Olivia have 5 grandchildren... "all wonderful gifts from God."

 

There will be a reception for John and Olivia immediately following the 11:15 AM service of worship, down in the CLC. 

Wednesday Night Dinner 

Wednesday Night Dinner

Come out and join us each Wednesday this fall for dinner and some fellowship time with your WFPC family. The dinner buffet starts at 5:30 PM and runs until 6:45 PM. We also have a wide variety of bible studies and classes for you to choose from and even a great program and choirs for the kids. We had a great turnout this past Wednesday with 156 people enjoying a taco buffet. Our third Wednesday night dinner of the fall season will be held on September 24th and will feature:

PORK TENDERLOIN, WILD RICE, GREEN BEANS,

ROLLS, FRUIT AND BANANA PUDDING


To reserve your spot for dinner please contact Dean Tryon at [email protected] or by text at 919-441-1271. A special reminder, RSVP's need to be made by Sunday of each week to ensure your spot at our table. Kindly let Dean know 24 hours in advance if you are unable to keep your reservation as no-shows (18 this past week) means WFPC has to cover the costs of those meals. Take out orders are also available for families on the go!!

Also, if you are looking for a place to plug in and volunteer and get to know a great group of people, we have several volunteer spots to choose from with assisting each week.

 First Friday For Families

First Fridays for Families is back! Please make plans to join us in the CLC for our very first movie night of the season on Friday, October 3rd. We'll enjoy pizza, drinks, and dessert while watching THE LEGO MOVIE on the big screen. Bring your beach chairs, blankets, pillows....whatever you need to get comfy and enjoy a night of food and fellowship with your WFPC family! Dinner starts at 6:00 pm, the movie begins at 6:30 pm. We'll finish up around 8:30 pm. There is no charge for this event and all are welcome. We will have a donation jar to offset the cost of dinner. Please RSVP to Amy Stevens at [email protected]. If you are unable to RSVP ahead of time, please come anyway! We hope to see you there.   

 Koinonia Suppers

Registration for the fall dinner groups, officially called our "Koinonia Suppers" is starting. Koinonia (Koi-no-ni-a) suppers are simply a time for fellowship with other Christians. What could be more fun? This is a great opportunity to get to know members of the congregation and to share good food and good conversation. A group is typically eight people and meets in a host's home. There is only a one time commitment but most groups enjoy meeting again over the next several months.  Create Your Healthy Lifestyle on Wednesday Nights!!

A Healthy Lifestyle isn't just about Food ~ It's about Faith, Food, Fitness, Focus, and Friends!  Feast on something bigger than a fad!  Join a group of women for THE DANIEL PLAN created by Rick Warren, and learn how to make practical, meaningful, and lasting changes to your health and the health of your family. Every BODY needs a BUDDY, so bring a FRIEND! Upcoming WFPC Youth Group Activities

 


CAMP DON LEE DEADLINE:

Middle School Youth who would like to go to our Camp Don Lee retreat Oct 10-12 need to submit registration materials by Sunday Sept 21. This retreat is hosted by the Youth Council of the New Hope Presbytery. It is an incredible retreat along the waterfront and a great place to deepen relationships with God and friends. Two of our High School Youth - Lily Olmo and Robby Patterson - will serve as small-group leaders there. For registration materials, contact Amy Donahoo at (919) 608-0439 or [email protected]. All Youth - grades 6-8 - are invited.  

 

TEACHER ASSISTANTS NEEDED: If you'd love to help a Youth learn more about Christ through Bible study and modern-day application, please consider joining our team of Youth Ministry teachers. We offer studies on Sunday mornings during the 10 am Sunday School hour and also on Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. We need additional assistants in both the High School and Middle School classrooms. All materials are provided and the schedule is flexible. Divorce Care

Even in the storm of divorce, you can find God who grants peace beyond human understanding. If you are struggling with the pain of separation or divorce, please sign up for our new session of Divorce Care, which takes place on Wednesday nights at 6:00 PM in Modular 3, Room 1. Divorce Care is a national and time-tested curriculum for support groups that teaches us how to work through anger, loneliness, financial stress, parenting challenges and forgiveness associated with divorce. Divorce Care is open to the entire community. You do not need to be a member of WFPC to be nurtured by this ministry, so please spread the word beyond our church walls.  WFPC Morning Glory Circle

The Morning Glory Circle will meet on Thursday, September 25, at 9:30 AM in the Youth Room of the CLC.

We will be studying chapter two of "Traveling Light", Max Lucado's book on the 23rd Psalm as women of all ages are welcome.

 

Meetings will continue throughout the year on the second and fourth Thursdays (second Thursday only in November and December), at the regularly scheduled time. For more information, please call Ann Cobb at 919-847-0820. Please join us for study, prayer, fellowship and service opportunities.

 WFPC Fall Blood Drive

The Fall WFPC Blood Drive is almost here!  On Sunday, October 5, we will host one part of what is the 2nd largest annual church effort for blood donation in a 16-county region.  In fact, WFPC is among the top 40 churches in the country for annual donations of blood to Red Cross!  This important ministry which gives the gift of life to so many needs your help to continue to grow.  Please sign up at the workroom counter to donate, or to provide snacks or a couple hours of your afternoon.  You also can sign-up through the Red Cross online system by clicking here and using location code "WFPC".

Each WFPC Blood Drive is successful because of the work of 20 - 25 volunteers; many of these slots are still available.  For each drive we have a goal of providing 100 units of blood, and we are short of donors for this drive.  Childcare will be provided throughout the afternoon, as will very yummy snacks, great fellowship and football on the big screen!  (Red Cross staff love to work our blood drive because we are so welcoming and have such great baked goods!)  If you have any questions contact Gary Skinner at 919-562-8132 or [email protected], or Ed Pulliam at 919-554-5090 or [email protected].
Chick Flicks

 

"God's Not Dead." Let's get together for some good conversation, deepened friendships, encouragement and inspiration. Bring an appetizer to share at 6:30pm and we will start the movie at 7:15pm. After the movie we will discuss how it relates to our Faith walk.
