Board of Education Names

Parvin Ahmadi Superintendent

At its board meeting on May 28th, the Castro Valley Unified School District Board of Education selected Parvin Ahmadi as the district's next superintendent.  Parvin Ahmadi has been the Superintendent of the Pleasanton Unified School District for the past five years.  Prior to becoming superintendent, Ahmadi served as the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction for the Fremont Unified School District.

CVUSD  Board of Education President John Barbieri stated that, "The Castro Valley Board of Education is proud that after a long and extensive search, which included approximately twenty highly qualified candidates of both current superintendents and assistant superintendents, we narrowed them down to six.  Candidates were interviewed in depth as to their strengths, commitment to education, high student achievement for all students, an understanding of a kindergarten to adult education system, the ability to articulate a clear vision, and work effectively with well-educated and dedicated teachers, administrators, classified employees, parents, and community members.  From the final two candidates, we found a new superintendent who meets and surpasses the above said qualifications."

Superintendent Ahmadi is proud to have started her career in education as a teacher.  After teaching in San Jose for several years, she moved to Fremont where she served as a vice principal, principal, director, and assistant superintendent for thirteen years before becoming the Superintendent in Pleasanton.  Parvin Ahmadi holds a Bachelor's degree from San Jose State, a Masters in Teaching from National Louis University in Chicago, Certificate for School Management Program from UCLA, and a Masters in Educational Leadership from St. Mary's College of California.

Superintendent Ahmadi has been on the Board of Directors for the Innovation Tri-Valley Leadership Group and serves as its Chair of the Education Committee, connecting the business community and industry with public education.  Through her collaboration with the Society of Organizational Learning (SOL), Ahmadi has been leading efforts in systems thinking in Alameda County, planning and organizing regional events featuring Peter Senge, the author of The Fifth Discipline and a senior lecturer at MIT.

Superintendent Ahmadi serves as the representative of the Contra Costa and Alameda County Superintendents to the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) Superintendency Council.  Ahmadi teaches the Instructional Leadership module to new and upcoming superintendents attending the ACSA Superintendents Academies in Central and Northern California.

Superintendent Ahmadi will officially start as the CVUSD superintendent on July 1, 2015 and stated, "I am very excited about joining a wonderful community of Board of Trustees, educators, and parents to serve and nurture students in the Castro Valley Unified School District to fulfill their dreams, aspirations, and to positively impact their community and the world."

Superintendent Ahmadi and her husband are proud to have two sons and a daughter-in-law.
