CASTRO VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL PRESENTATION & RECOGNITIONS
Blaine Torpey, Principal of Castro Valley High School, along with staff members, J.C. Farr, Rich Schneck, and Gary Benz, presented a review of the programs at Castro Valley High School; Safe Schools to School Program, African American Parent Advisory Council, Information Technology Pathways, and the high school Chemical Hygiene Plan. was recognized as an outstanding student for displaying strong leadership skills, academic excellence, and hundreds of hours of community service. Read the full recognition here.
Bruce Dughi was recognized as an outstanding volunteer for her contributions to the students, parents, and staff of Castro Valley High School. Read the full recognition here.
ALAMEDA COUNTY OFFICE OF EDUCATION NOMINEES and WINNERS
Elizabeth Ingram of Creekside Middle School was recognized as the Alameda County Teacher of the Year Nominee.  The County Program will be held in October.
Alameda County Classified Employee of the Year Nominees:
Lauretta Mazur (Support Services and Security),
Bonnie Bryne (Child Nutrition Lead Cafeteria Worker), Colleen Friery (Instructional Assistant), and Manuel Pita (Building and Grounds) (L-R). 
Sharon Bailey (Student Computer Service Coordinator) is not pictured.
Alameda County Employee of the Year Winner,
Wes Feucht (Purchasing and Warehouse for District).
Gail Swartzendruber was recognized at the California League of Middle Schools State Educator of the Year for the entire state.
Aimee Johnson of Stanton Elementary School was recognized at the Masonic Teacher of the Year.

STUDENT WELLNESS POLICY

Dr. Candi Clark, Assistant Superintendent of Business Services, reported on the status of the Student Wellness Policy.  On January 14, 2015, the Board approved revisions to Board Policy (BP) 5030.  Phase 2 will begin with looking at the overall policy.  Staff will be forming a committee to review the policy. UPDATE ON CHILD NUTRITION PROGRAM
Director of Child Nutrition, Brenda Lightfoot-Handy, provided the board an update on Nutrition Education Opportunities and the grants the department is applying for, Smart Snacks in Schools, the new Perpetual Inventory System, and the new Required Professional Standards for the employees in the department. BOARD ACTIONS

At the meeting, the board took the following actions:

  • Approved the District Wide Copier Equipment Purchases and Service Request for Proposal Results and the Requisition with Jive Communications for VOIP.
  • Adopted resolution for the Education Protection Account (EPA) FY15/16.
  • Approved the Minutes for April 17, April 23, May 5 and the May 6 board meetings;
  • Approved the Consent Agenda which included:
    • Approval of Purchase Order Report, Position Control Report, and Personnel Report;
    • Adopted resolutions for:
      • Disposal of Obsolete and/or Surplus Property; and
      • Authorization to Solicit Bids for the Replacement and Upgrading of Lighting and HVAC at Various Sites.

The board also heard reports from Alicia Gholami, CVTA President; the superintendent; and board members.
