Update on the Superintendent Search
At a Special Board meeting on April 9, the Castro Valley Unified School District Board of Education approved the Leadership Profile for the next Superintendent. The board approved the following profile:
Professional Experience and Preparation
Masters degree and administrative credential required; doctorate desirable
District office, principal or other site administrative experience required
Classroom teaching experience, preferably at the K-12 level required
Superintendent experience desirable
District level experience as assistant superintendent or director desirable
Personal Characteristics
Leader who can unify district and community stakeholders toward the attainment of a common vision.
Excellent communications and listening skills.
A "people person" with excellent interpersonal skills, is approachable and accessible, flexible, and has a sense of humor.
Honest, trustworthy, respectful of others, fair, transparent in all actions, and has the highest level of integrity and ethics.
Track record of providing equity for all students through a rigorous and challenging curriculum.
Demonstrated leadership in team building and in establishing collaborative partnerships within the district and the community.
Strong leader who makes sound, difficult decisions in the best interests of students by considering multiple data sources, suggestions, and differing opinions.
Ability to create a district climate of cooperation and collaboration while at the same time holding individuals and teams accountable for their actions.
Highly visible in the schools and community, and preferably a member of the community.
Highly professional with a strong work ethic and leads by example.
Professional Skills and Abilities
A proven track record of enhancing student achievement and reducing the achievement gap.
Excellent knowledge of K-12 curriculum and understands and embraces the challenges of implementing the Common Core Standards, Smarter Balance Assessments, and effective programs for English learners, diverse cultures.
A team builder who recognizes the abilities and contributions of all district staff, parents, and community members, and can unify and inspire all members of district community.
A commitment to academic excellence and a clear vision for education that maintains a focus on improving student performance and providing equity for all.
Builds strong alliances and collaborative relationships with parent and community groups as well as local government, business leaders, and higher education institutions.
A "generalist" with experience in curriculum and instruction, finance, budget, special education and personnel.
Strong knowledge and understanding of special education rules and regulations.
Ability to design and implement successful instructional programs Pre-K through adult.
Experience with bond/ tax campaigns and capital improvement projects.
Excellent fiscal management and school budgeting skills and has business savvy with strong business acumen including LCFF/LCAP development and implementation.
Ability to assign responsibility, delegate authority, and hold people accountable.
Knowledge and understanding of school programs and in building career pathways for all students.
Understands and supports the impact of technology in school district management, instructional practices and digital learning for both staff and students.
Experience with civil engagement and involvement in advocacy and professional development at the State level.
The application window closes on May 1, 2015. The board will then work with the consultants to narrow the pool of candidates to interview.
