Palomares Elementary Presentation & Recognitions 

Jessica Wrobleski, Principal of Palomares Elementary School,  

along with staff;  Sandy Chidester, Gigi Catrina, Amber Pyle, Meredith Evans, Diane Milinkevich, and Jeanette Collard shared that Palomares is most proud of their Professional Learning Community (PLC).  The teachers are a collaborative team that works together to bring out the best in all children, increase graduation rate, encourage each other to achieve more professionally, share knowledge and teaching strategies, ensure student success, nothing less, and look at the data to make instructional decisions.
 

Eryn Graffam was recognized as an outstanding student for displaying strong organizational skills, enthusiasm, creativity, hard work, and positivity. Read the full recognition here.

Mid Alameda County AB86 Consortium Update

Susie Passeggi, Director - Castro Valley Adult & Career Education (CVACE), updated the board on the status of plans for the Mid-Alameda County Adult Education Consortium and Castro Valley Adult and Career Education. 

 

Ms. Passeggi mentioned that AB 86 was enacted on July 1, 2013, established the creation of Local Adult Education Consortia to improve and align adult education services throughout California. Seven local school districts in formal partnership with the Chabot-Las Positas Community College district jointly applied for a planning and implementation grant to create a Local Adult Education Consortium, the Mid-Alameda County Adult Education Consortium (MACC). The seven school districts in the MACC are Castro Valley, Dublin, Hayward, Livermore, Pleasanton, San Leandro, and San Lorenzo Unified School Districts.

Following the MACC update, CVACE Assistant Principal Sharon Travers provided a slide show showing a day in the life of school. 

LCAP Community Input

Mary Boyle, Assistant Superintendent for Educational Services, updated the board on the status of the community input meetings for the annual update and revision of the district's Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP).   Participants have been asked to engage in an active review of district progress on our 2014-2015 LCAP, as well as to review, revise, and offer input on draft goals for 2015-2016 and ongoing.

Selection Process for the Next Superintendent
The board discussed the process to select a superintendent to replace Jim Negri, who will retire June 30, 2015.  The board solicited proposals from firms that conduct superintendent searches.  A subcommittee of President John Barbieri and Vice President Jo Loss screen eight proposal on February 25 and narrowed the pool of firms to interview to three that will be interviewed on March 4.  Once a firm is selected, there will be opportunity for public input.  Once the details of the process are finalized, they will be communicated to the public. Review the Request for Proposal (RFP).

Board Actions
At the meeting, the board took the following actions:
  • approved the Contract between Nigro & Nigro, PC, Certified Public Accountants and Castro Valley Unified School District for District Auditing Services;
  • adopted a resolution to Excuse the Absence of Trustee Charmaine Banther on February 12, 2015 and the minutes from the Board Meeting of February 12, 2015; and
  • approved the Consent Agenda, which included the following:
    • approval of the Purchase Order Report, the Position Control Report, Budget Adjustments, the Personnel Report, and the upcoming District-Sponsored overnight Trip;
    • adopted a resolution for Disposal of Obsolete and/or Surplus Property;
    • approved the Individual Service Agreement for Nonpublic, Nonsectarian School/Agency Services: Alpine Academy, December 17, 2014 - June 30, 2015; and
    • adopted the Board Meeting minutes from the Special Board Meeting of February 9, 2015.
The board also heard reports from Student Board Member Spencer Dong, CSEA President Arlene Cristobal, and CVTA President Alicia Gholami.
