Process to Hire the Superintendent
With the announcement that Superintendent Jim Negri is retiring at the end of the school year, the Board of Education has started the process to hire the next superintendent. The process involves the following steps:
- Issuing a Request for Proposals (RFP) from Executive Search Firms for the Position of District Superintendent. There are a number of firms that specialize in conducting confidential searches for superintendents. The board used a search firm in 2009 when it hired Superintendent Negri. The RFPs are due February 24, 2015.
- Board President John Barbieri and Vice President Jo Loss will serve as a board sub-committee to screen the RFPs and narrow the list of search firms to no more than five (5). The screening process will be completed by February 27, 2015.
- The entire Board of Education will interview the search firms and select one to conduct the superintendent search. The board meeting to interview the firms is tentatively scheduled for March 4, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. in the District Board Room.
Once a search firm is selected, the firm will provide the following services:
- Solicit input from district stakeholders (e.g., staff, parent, community);
- Assist the board with the development of the hiring profile based on board and stakeholder input;
- Assist the board with an advertising brochure and advertising for the position;
- Assist the board with the recruitment of high quality applicants who match the established profile;
- Assist the board with the facilitation of the applicant screening process;
- Conduct reference and background checks;
- Assist the board with the facilitation of the interview process and a site visit with the final recommended candidate(s);
- Provide direction and/or assistance on identifying appropriate total compensation for the recommended candidate; and
- Assist in the contract process with recommended candidate.
Based on the information provided by the search firm, the Board of Education will
- Review the candidates' application packet and qualifications;
- Determine the candidates to interview;
- Select the final recommended candidate(s);

The Board of Education intends to complete entire process by May 22, 2015.
