Student of the Month

Evan McFadden

in his own words

I am in 8th grade and I am 13 years old. I have played acoustic guitar for 5 years. I also play electric guitar and sing. My other activities are baseball, lacrosse, swimming, and soccer. I like SoundStage because my teacher, Geoff, is a very nice person. Also, he lets me learn songs that I choose and hear on the radio. I like to perform in the concerts that Soundstage sets up. One of my musical goals is to join one of the bands that SoundStage provides and perform at one of the concerts with them. Over the summer I opened with two songs for a band who played at a friend's graduation party. Also, I have won a few school talent shows playing the guitar.
Thanks for sending your friends

Our greatest source of new students is referrals from you, our current students and alumni.  We really appreciate it.  We hope that you continue to recommend us to your friends and family around town.  To show our appreciation we are offering a 50.00 discount towards tuition for each new family that you recommend.  We will apply that discount to your tuition.

Thanks for helping to keep out little school humming happily along.

One thing that makes SoundStage special is our extensive concert program. We offer 6 concerts each year and they are all absolutely free. Most other music schools have only one or two "formal recitals" a year and some even charge students to participate. Our concerts are frequent and fun.

According to director Mickey Leone, "we view performing as important in the development of young musicians and young people. Getting up on stage to present music helps to build confidence, encourages practice and is just plain fun."

Many of our students end up on YouTube for family and friends across the world to see. Who knows? Maybe your child's video  will go 'viral". They could be next Justin Beiber Internet sensation.  Parents, can you say  "Early Retirement".  Here are a few links to student videos on line.

A great new SoundStage teacher

Background
I received my Bachelor of Music degree from Syracuse University (2008) and Master of Music degree from Yale University on full scholarship as well as a Yale Fellowship (2010).

After completing my MM, I moved to California for two years and actively performed at both public and private functions while collaborating with artists like Chris Swanson, Masa Sasaki, and of course fellow SoundStage teacher Jessica Kluck. It was during our time in Los Angeles that we began our musical partnership which has turned into the band "Pleasure Seekers." Pleasure Seekers currently is in the process of writing and recording our debut album, and has recently been signed to a few publishing catalogues. In addition, our original music has been featured recently on a few online radio stations hosted by Radionomy, Live365, and Women of Substance Radio. Pleasure Seekers is set to begin performances on their debut album in 2013.

Teaching Style and Philosophy
I believe that as we learn any instrument we are not only forced to address the technical challenges associated with the instrument, but also must begin to learn a new language - the language of music. While studying guitar under my tutelage, students will improve their technical ability while learning the nuances of the musical language, namely expectation, 'musical grammar and syntax', nuances, stylistic inflections, and all the other aspects that make up any conventional language. When students can master the technical aspects in context of the language the musical possibilities are limitless.

That being said - I emphasize that music is a lifelong journey and that one is never done learning. As artists and musicians we must learn to be fully invested and satisfied in the moment while playing, and yet always find something more to improve upon. The right attitude of humility will foster the best musicians.

Easy Make-up Program

Occasionally, every student needs to miss a lesson. At SoundStage we make it easy to arrange a makeup. Our students qualify for a makeup even if they give us  little or no notice. Plus there is no limit to how many makups they can have.

It's easy. Just go to our web site at www.soundstagemusic.com and make a reservation. The schedule is pre-set for for the whole year. You will see makeups for your instrument and ability level but you can also sign up for a different teacher and even on a different instrument. Yes, a different instrument!  Many families use the makeup sessions as a sort of workshop to meet new teachers and try new instruments.  Every SoundStage teacher offers a makeup on their specialty every month. We encourage students to try something new like a voice lesson or a drum lesson just for fun.

Teacher Carol Tileston offers makeup lessons every month

The makeup lessons are pre-scheduled for Fridays and Saturdays. They are 60 minutes long and may include several students at once. If several students attend a lesson then it often becomes a sort of jam session . Kids love that.  We have an amazing staff of talented, creative and experienced teachers who know how to make the sessions productive and fun. Sign up today for a makeup lesson and come try something new. It's all free to enrolled students.
