IN THIS ISSUE:
Note from the President
Convention excitement is building! We've seen the schedule and your committee has been working hard to ensure a spectacular weekend of fun & friendship for those attending.
See below about the big news in Saskatchewan!
We are so sorry to see Linda Cummings leave the board. She has been such a valuable asset to the board and the members. Linda was very involved in re-writing the By-Laws for you and has contributed so much to the CJCS over the years. She will be greatly missed but for those members in the Maritimes you are lucky as Linda is continuing as your Regional Rep. Right now she is taking some time to enjoy a wonderful vacation and we wish her well.
A big warm welcome to our newest members! See the names below in this newsletter.
Check out the list of items available for sale for those attending convention. Not going? Arrange in advance to have someone pick up your order for you. Different: We'll be sending you an invoice confirming your order and that items you ordered are in stock. Use the invoice to make an instant payment by credit card and once processed you will be emailed a receipt which you will bring to convention registration to collect your "goodies."
In 24 hours over 20 Jewels have already registered for the Winter 2017 cruise - join us!
Whatever your plans, have a safe and pleasant summer!
Hugs to you all.

New Saskatchewan Regional Representative
Welcome Marion Paterson as the new Saskatchewan Regional Representative! Your Board of Directors is pleased to share the news that Marion has kindly offered to take on this position. We thank you Marion for stepping forward and offering to dedicate the time and energy to fulfilling this position.
Marion is a part of the Crown Rebel Rowsers in Regina. She comes with excellent references, tremendous enthusiasm and past experience. Marion has already proven herself as a great asset to the CJCS. We look forward to working with her. She may be reached at sk@cjcsmembers.com Although Marion spends her summers "at the lake" she is still always available by email. Welcome Marion!
A Note From Your Saskatchewan Regional Rep:
I am honoured to be the Regional Rep for Sk and look forward to meeting many more precious jewels here and across our great country. As usual, Sk Jewels have been busy having fun and exploring new activities.  The Class n Hatz, Kipling, The Grand Girls of Grenfell and Regina Rebel Rowsers attended the Kipling Bacon Fest where we sampled around 20 items made with bacon and were entertained by numerous musicians. Who knew bacon fudge would be so good!!
For their July activity, the Grand Gals of Grenfell travelled to Regina for lunch at Henry's Cafe in the Ripplinger Art Gallery.  Lunch was followed with  a tour of Stone Hall Castle, a 1926 stone castle transformed and decorated to look like a Medieval European Castle, the only Medieval Castle in Canada. The ride home was completed with a stop for ice cream at Indian Head.
Our thoughts are with all the people across our province who have been evacuated and/or flooded. We welcome the rain but not so much at once.
Wishing all Jewels a healthy, fun, sun filled summer.
Marion Paterson
Sk Regional Representative

CJCS Logo Shopping - Tees, pins, bags, etc.
Heading to Convention or do you just want some CJCS logo items or to purchase a CJCS T-shirt for convention?
This year we are doing things differently.
We are ONLY taking advance orders for t-shirts and other items. Everything must be pre-paid and then will be available for you to pick up at Convention Registration in Calgary. Not going? Find someone who is that will pick up your merchandise for you - but we must know who to release your item(s) to, otherwise you won't get them. Due to the possibility of a postal strike, at this time we are only selling items that can be delivered at the convention registration desk during registration hours. This also saves you Shipping & Handling fees. Melanie is flying to convention therefore will only be bringing what has been pre-paid.
To see the shopping list of what can be ordered, please click on this link:

2017 Cruise
As there wasn't a lot of interest in the longer and more expensive Panama Canal cruise Sue decided to try the Mexican Riviara Cruise again that we did in 2010 and in just 24 hours we have over 20 Jewels who have registered with Princess for this cruise. We would love to have you join us. If you are interested, please refer to the information that was emailed to you earlier this week. The date is January 28th departing out of L.A.  If you are interested in joining CJCS on this exciting adventure, please contact Sue Schierer at: BC@cjcsmembers.com   Thank you.
Secret Santa
Names have been exchanged and some of our lucky Jewels have already posted on our Facebook page, photos of their beautiful Christmas in July gifts.  Keep posting those photos! (Might encourage more of us to participate next year!) The postal strike is still not on so hopefully you get your package soon if you haven't already. If you signed up to participate, please be fair and send your gift.  A huge thank you to all who participated and to Melanie for organizing this for us.
Emails, Scams and Phone Calls
We worry about some of our members who are not tech savy. Scammers are running rampant these days. If you get any email requesting information from you - account or personal information of any type, please delete the email. No one is giving you money or gifts for free. PayPal, ITunes, CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) and Banks will not email you asking for personal information. When in doubt, call your bank or whoever the mail claims to be from. Only open links in emails from friends you trust and even then, unless there is a personal note telling you what the link is about - it's probably not safe to click on the link. It's a shame that the world has come to this. Please be careful.
As for those phone calls telling you your computer is infected, hang up. They will scam you into allowing them access into your computer and then lock it up on you. We don't want you to incur unnecessary bills for computer repairs that are not required.
Before forwarding emails with stories that may seem to good to be true, please check www.snopes.com first to see if they are a hoax as often hoaxes are just one more method of obtaining your personal information or the information of your friends and family.

Well so are we but we need your HELP!
The Steering Committee has been working hard the past few months to plan a fun-filled weekend, and are now asking for your participation by volunteering so that everyone enjoys herself. REMEMBER, WE ARE ALL HERE TO HAVE FUN!! See ya'll at The Round-Up!
The Back Nine Holes
You know... time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years. It seems just yesterday that I was young, just married and embarking on my new life with my mate. Yet in a way, it seems like eons ago, and I wonder where all the years went. I know that I lived them all. I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams.  But, here it is... the back nine of my life and it catches me by surprise...How did I get here so fast? Where did the years go and where did my youth go?
I remember well seeing older people through the years and thinking that those older people were years away from me and that I was only on the first hole and the back nine was so far off that I could not fathom it or imagine fully what it would be like.  But, here it is...my friends are retired and getting gray...they move slower and I see an older person now.  Some are in better and some worse shape than me...but, I see the great change...Not like the ones that I remember who were young and vibrant...but, like me, their age is beginning to show and we are now those older folks that we used to see and never thought we'd become.
Each day now, I find that just getting a shower is a real target for the day! And taking a nap is not a treat anymore... it's mandatory! Cause if I don't on my own free will... I just fall asleep where I sit!  And so...now I enter into this new season of my life unprepared for all the aches and pains and the loss of strength and ability to go and do things that I wish I had done but never did!! But, at least I know, that though I'm on the back nine, and I'm not sure how long it will last. Yes, I have regrets. There are things I wish I hadn't done...things I should have done, but indeed, there are many things I'm happy to have done. It's all in a lifetime.
So, if you're not on the back nine yet...let me remind you, that it will be here faster than you think. So, whatever you would like to accomplish in your life please do it quickly! Don't put things off too long!! Life goes by quickly. So, do what you can today, as you can never be sure whether you're on the back nine or not!  You have no promise that you will see all the seasons of your life...so, live for today and say all the things that you want your loved ones to remember...and hope that they appreciate and love you for all the things that you have done for them in all the years past.
"Life" is a gift to you. The way you live your life is your gift to those who come after. Make it a fantastic one. Live it well, go out and do something ridiculously outrageous, kick up your heels, HAVE FUN!
Remember "It is health that is real wealth, not pieces of gold and silver.
Board Election 2017
It appears that no one has sent their letter of application in for the one opening on the Board of Directors. This being the case, there will be no election process this year and Elaine Hill will be re-elected by acclamation! Congratulations Elaine, now you can relax and enjoy your convention!
