   Happy Canada Day
   to our Jewels
across the Country!

May your holiday be safe
& full of wonderful memories.

IN THIS ISSUE:
Note from the President
I am just home from a tour to several provinces where I had the honour of seeing many sister Jewel friends and meeting a great many more! In spite of being under the weather the entire time I survived and it was worth it!  I've been resting this week and am now on another medication so hopefully this one will work. (Rest is not a word in Sue's or my vocabulary!)
Our Jewels were such gracious wonderful hosts to Sue, Myrna and I and we can't thank you enough. It was such a thrill to see so many familiar faces again and to meet so many new friends we'd not had the privilege to meet previously. That's the problem with a country as large as Canada. We are so spread out so this tour was much needed and well received everywhere we went.
To those who planned the events, we can't thank you enough! As soon as I am feeling better I'll post all my photos on the Jewel Box Photo Album.
The highlight of our trip of course was what started the whole thing. I was going to go visit Mary Huber who was in hospital. After a three year medical battle she was just getting better then no thanks to a wasp, she fell and broke her hip. I hear she is home now where she will be more comfortable and it will be easier for friends to visit. We all love you Mary and wish you a speedy recovery.
To all I spoke with on our journey who shared some of your own personal or family medical issues you are dealing with, hugs my friends and may things improve quickly. Reach out to your sister Jewels and let them know when you are going through a difficult or stressful time. We're here to help you.
Read about my adventures below.
Please also notice a new section:  Welcome New Members.
Meanwhile, hugs to you all.

Hello from your Admin Assistant!
Hi Jewels!  Our weather here in Kelowna was a balmy 38 degrees last week, this week its been raining nearly 5 straight days! Can't tell if its spring or summer - I think the Okanagan needs its own season just for June.  I'm g
oing to call it Sprummer.  Here are all the possible footwear for Sprummer:
Ok, top right is not at all practical, and quite probably painful, but sooooo beautiful!          Maybe these are better choices:

   I Love Shoes! They don't
care if you've gained 5 or 10 lbs!

I am very impressed by the number of Queens who have been adding new members to their chapters!  Just a reminder that when sending in your forms, please write out their name, email address (if they have one) and mailing address & telephone number (as all are required by law).  Some of you use the Insurance Form for this but it only has spaces for Surname and Legal (first) names - I don't mind if you use this form but please give me all information required so I have a complete database.  Thank you!

Warm wishes,

Provincial Convention
On April 15th 40 of us hopped on a bus and enjoyed a fun ride to Swift Current. Marion had organized "Horse Racing" game and "Bus Bingo" to make the trip go faster. Before we knew it we were there, and after checking in we enjoyed pizza and soft drinks. After lunch we had time to relax for an hour and then off to the pool for our "Jewel Olympics". What a hoot we had... Jewel Javelin, Ducky Derby, Dolly Dice, and Balls Shot Puts. Great winners, and medals were handed out courtesy of The Rebel Rowsers. Some headed off after that to the Living Sky Casino to take their chances.
After breakfast Saturday "a shopping we did go", then back at 3 pm giving us plenty of time to get ready for a formal banquet of roast beef and ham. It was SOOOOOO yummy, and a Greek dessert "Galatoboureko" to finish it off, very delicious, as were the many more dessert bars and slices.   We left the restaurant full and happy, then back to our hotel for more festivities.
The highlight of the evening was our White Elephant Gift Exchange. Lori from the Rebels Celebrating Mayhem With Passion read the right - left and across story for Jewels, it was so much bedlam. Four ladies won the most attractive and imaginative gift wrapping, being a fancy CROWN by Marion Paterson, a PURPLE HOUSE by Marilyn Bossert or was that Mr. Bossert? A fancy PURPLE TUTU gift by Julliette Dennis and a JEWEL TRAIN gifted by Lori Schmidt. Some left for the Casino and a great band playing '50s, '60s and '70s. We couldn't have picked a better weekend.
All reported a great time, it was certainly a hootin' - tootin' good weekend!

Vice Queen of Rebels Celebrating Mayhem With Passion

SK: 9th Annual Purple Hat Tea/Brunch
South SK Jewels were very pleased to host CEO and Founder, "Queen Blabalot" Lynda Millard and Vice President, "Boop-Dee" Sue Schierer to our Royal Court supper and Purple Hat Tea/Brunch on May 29-30 at the start of their trek across Canada. Our beloved Mary Huber was so glad to visit with Lynda and Sue in hospital, sharing memories, hugs and tears. In fact the next day she went home.  140 Jewels attended the tea in their finest attires, bling and feathers. Thanks to Bonnie Doyle and the Queen City Crimson Cougars for doing such a great job hosting this event. Upon entering through a lit-up archway each Jewel was presented with a corsage made by Bernice Herperger of the Ruby Gems. Each corsage took over two hours to make. Sue sold many of her fascinators and we were glad she brought them. Brunch was excellent and certainly no one went home hungry. Lynda personally presented each Jewel with a small gift. One of our members, June, read a story she had written and gave our visitors a little piece of Sk to take home. Other entertainment was by a musical group, "Magic." Tea ended with Jewels singing the CJCS Song. Another great outing for Sk Jewels and our guests.

WOW - it was a roaring success - those who attended enjoyed delicious and bountiful banquets Saturday evening and Sunday Brunch. They danced the night away to the music of "The Crossroad Band" with Kathy Drok as lead singer/player.

The Royal Rebelles will be donating a substantial amount collected through the proceeds of the "Bling Bin" and silent auction to the Fort McMurray disaster fund. We wish to thank each and every one who attended for making the event the success that it was.

Ontario Luncheon
Lynda and Sue's Excellent
Cross-Canada Tour

Vice President Sue Schierer and I have just returned from a whirlwind tour of CJCS central Canada where we were joined in Ontario by Director Myrna Christensen. It was an excellent trip with on average 140 Jewels at most events. Some have posted their own reports above but we wanted to share with you what fun we had and what a wonderful feeling it was for Sue, Myrna and I to connect with members and to hear some of their stories of what CJCS means to them but more importantly, what a feeling to be surrounded by over one hundred smiling faces, listening to the chatter and laughter throughout the room, knowing that our Jewels know how to have FUN! - Lynda Millard
REGINA, Saskatchewan
After two quick flights Sue and I arrived in Regina and as we started down the escalator to baggage claim there was a Jewel dressed in red and white! Thank you Marion Paterson for being there with a friendly smile and hugs to welcome us to Regina. Marion not only drove us to the nearby hospital to visit Mary Huber, but brought along a snack for us of cheese, crackers and fresh strawberries just in case we were hungry. How very thoughtful.
It meant so much to us to be able to visit Mary, but we were sorry that her recent fall and broken hip meant she couldn't participate in the dinner she had planned for us that evening with the Royal Court.
After our wonderful visit full of laughter, tears and hugs with our dear friend Mary, we were dropped at our hotel to freshen up. Not long after Marion returned with Shirley Tchorzewski and they took us off to the Royal Court dinner at Tony Roma's. We were greeted by many of the local (and some out of town) Queens and Vice Queens. No formal meeting tonight just socializing: catching up with friends and meeting new friends. Saskatchewan Jewels have a knack for always making me feel welcome! Sue too!
The next morning Marion and Shirley were back at our hotel to whisk us away to the "Purple Hat Tea" hosted by the very elegant Queen Bonnie Doyle and her Queen City Crimson Cougars. The room was decorated beautifully. Bernice Herperger (Queen of the Ruby Gems) had made a corsage for every one of the attendants (a 280+hour project!) Thank you so much Bernice! I will save mine just as I have saved the one I received at the National Convention several years ago in Regina. Sue had brought some of her beautiful hair fascinators with her to sell and we also had some CJCS items to sell.
The room was filled with so many familiar faces and it was such fun to catch up with as many Jewels as we had time for. Some had good news and some reported on some difficult times they are going through. It's so good to know that our Jewels are here to support them. We enjoyed a lovely lunch followed by entertainment and all too soon we had to leave for the airport. Our trustee chauffeurs, Marion and Shirley returned us safely to the Regina airport for our next adventure. It's always so difficult to say goodbye when we've had but just a short visit!
WINNIPEG, Manitoba
Another short flight and we were in Winnipeg. We grabbed the hotel's shuttle and got settled into our hotel room and then went to find a bite to eat. We were joined later by the son of a fellow I had grown up with. He's a local Winnipeg Doctor and also star of a Rock Band and really quite easy on our tired old eyes. We had a delightful visit with some animated conversations with Jarrett then collapsed into bed.
First thing in the morning Lynda Choquette was there to pick us up. Lynda had already been out to Assiniboia Downs to oversee the set-up for the Spring Tea (which was really a lovely lunch) then drove all the way back to pick us up. We tried to get there early so Sue could set up with the other vendors before the Jewels began to arrive but as you all know, it's hard to be first as our Jewels are rarely late for anything when FUN and food are in the mix!
Many thanks to Lynda and her committee (
Marguerite Malo, June Bone, Valerie Watt and Karen Janzen) who all helped to provide our Crown Jewels members with a happy and fun filled day. As Lynda said: "I believe your visits have the potential to stir things up and get things moving.  For sure, your visit here in 2014, to establish our Royal Court, made lots of difference for us at the regional level.  Our Royal Court is scheduled to meet again June 23, and I think we have lots to talk about regarding planning for this region in the future.  Thank you and Hugs!!"
Thank you to former Director and Regional Representative Debbie Lamb and members of her chapter who drove in from Kenora, Ontario to attend (2 hours each way.)
A very special thank you to Queen Betty Paley and her "Roblin Rubies" from Roblin Manitoba. These ladies drove 4 1/2 hours each way to attend the luncheon and entertain us (they had us in stitches they were so GOOD!) Being such a long drive they arrived the night before and made this a "Road Trip Adventure." I'm sure they were exhausted by the time they arrived home later that night.
NIAGARA FALLS, Ontario
Queen Joy Robichaud of the Regal Rubies Of Niagara and Queen Diana Ruicci of The Niagara Gypsies were our hostesses in Niagara Falls for a lovely CJCS luncheon. Director Myrna Christensen who is also the South & Eastern Ontario Representative drove in from Montreal as did her Vice Queen Diane Elliott. Both women drove with their husbands and we thank them for chauffeuring our Royalty to Ontario so they might attend this event and meet other Queens and members. We also had an honoured guest, Vicki Braidberg Queen of the "R H Factor" in Calgary who joined us as she was visiting in the area.
Again Sue had her fascinators for sale and there was also another vendor present. Lunch was excellent and we were given quite a choice of delicious home-made pies for dessert. We met so many lovely ladies that we didn't want to leave. Turns out we had the room until 4:00pm so several of us sat and enjoyed a lovely visit after the party was over. Thank you to the Dundas Valley Gems who brought a busload of Jewels to the luncheon. Rumour has it you managed some sightseeing too!

The trip was exhausting yet exhilarating! As Sue said: "Just a wonderful tour, to be able to sit and chat with our Jewels, to share stories.....it brings such a big smile to you!"
On behalf of Sue and myself, we THANK YOU and send HUGS to all who helped make this such a successful trip!! We look forward to seeing many of you in Calgary in September.

Provincial Report - Quebec and Ontario - March to June
Greetings Crown Jewels across Canada!!
I hope that all Jewels across Canada are starting to enjoy spring/summer such as it has been. One day very hot and humid, the next cold, windy, raining and feeling like fall again!! Sure makes it hard to know how to dress when one leaves the house in the morning!
In April I hosted a potluck lunch at my home for the Crimson Floozies. Always fun to see what "fun" dishes the ladies bring to share. As always a fun afternoon of lots of laughter and friendship.
For May we went on a road trip to Hawkesbury to a restaurant called "Miss Hawkesbury"! We did get lost on the way there but had planned some "get lost time" in our drive time. Lynda Laberge and her vice-queen Sue Smith from the Ottawa Belles joined us for a fun filled afternoon of great conversation and laughter. We did cover a great range of topics during the lunch.
June 1st found me in Niagara Falls for the "Meet and Greet" at the famous "Betty's" restaurant organized by Joy Robichaud and Diane Ruicci. We were joined by our CEO and Founder Lynda Millard and our Vice-President Sue Schierer from BC as well as Vicki from Calgary, Alberta who was visiting family in the area. My Vice-Queen Diane Elliott was also in attendance with her good friend Betty who lives in the area. Diane and I were very fortunate to have our wonderful husbands drive us from Montreal to Niagara Falls for this event. The food, service and friendship was wonderful. 3 ladies went home approx. $100.00 richer as they shared the proceeds from the sale of the 50/50 tickets. There were are a variety of other door prizes that were also won by some lucky ladies. Helen Riedke of the Regal Rubies of Niagara raffled off a lovely clutch purse. The funds raised from this raffle are being sent to the victims of the Fort Mc Murray fire. Good job Helen. A group of Jewels form Dundas/Flamborough/Waterdown travelled to Niagara Falls by bus. On their way home they did a tour of Niagara Falls as well as Niagara on The Lake. What a great way to enjoy such a great event. Perhaps this will become an annual occasion!! A "BIG THANK YOU" to Joy and Diane for hosting this wonderful event.
On June 11 The Crimson Floozies meet for their monthly lunch at Le Pioneer restaurant in Pointe Claire. As usual we had had great time. Also in attendance were 2 ladies who are interested in joining the Crown Jewels. I think we did a pretty good job of convincing them that the Crown Jewels is the up and coming group for ladies in Canada to join.
Following is an email that I received from Lynda Laberge of the Ottawa Belles and I thought that I would share it with all the Jewels across Canada:
Today our chapter went on an organized tour arranged by one of our members to a very nice retirement residence (Beacon Heights Retirement Residence) and while there I talked to the Activity Director about the CJCS and mentioned that it might be something she would consider as something the ladies there would be interested in.  She asked me to send her the information and she would look it over.
Just a little piece of information on our visit, we (12 of us plus our tour guide) got stuck in the elevator for 45 minutes.  Making it all worthwhile was that we were rescued by three very handsome firemen.  Okay most of us found it worthwhile but the consensus was not unanimous.
Hope we get a new chapter to add to our forces in Ottawa.

Thank you Lynda for promoting the CJCS on your outing!!
I know that were are a few of the Jewels out there who were in Halifax in September who will be able to relate to the story of "being stuck in an elevator"!!
