In the last edition of the E-News, President Mark Van Dorn included this information.  The Link was not working.

The 3 Year Ministry plan is an important document.  I encourage everyone to read it and consider it. The leadership of your conference has used this document to make important decisions and to set goals. Our conference minister, Edith Guffey, was called based on the criteria set out in that plan. Her job performance is measured against that plan. The goals and visions the leadership will set will be mirrored in that document. It is vital that we all know, own and engage in the vision it sets out. So I encourage you to read it, pray about it, and help us as we move forward to the future it envisions. At 1:30 pm on Saturday, November 9, 2013, in the Bradbury Thompson Center on the Washburn University campus, Bishop John Shelby Spong will speak on his latest book, "The Fourth Gospel: Tales of a Jewish Mystic." This presentation is co-sponsored by the Department of Philosophy at Washburn University and by Central Congregational Church in honor of its 125th anniversary.

Then, at 3:30 pm at Central Congregational Church, Spong will speak on his book "Jesus for the Non-Religious."

There will be opportunities for book signings after each event. Books will be available for purchase through the Ichabod Shop at Washburn University.

  Facebook Group for KO Clergy
comma

Join the conversation! All clergy persons in the KO Conference are welcome to join the Facebook group "Kansas-Oklahoma Conference UCC Clergy". This group has been set up to allow a conversation space for clergy persons. Personally, I will find it invaluable to have a forum to ask basic questions that occur to me during my first year of ministry. Come and join us!

How do I join a group on Facebook?

1.     Search for the group you would like to join.

2.     To join a group, click Join Group in the top-right corner of the group's page.

3.     You may have to wait for a group admin to approve your request.

Some things to keep in mind when you join a group:

§  People may see when you join an Open or Closed group, or that you're a member of that group, such as in news feed or search.

§  When someone adds you to an Open or Closed group, others may see that you've been invited (ex: in news feed or search). Once you visit a group you're invited to, you'll become a member and other people may see you joined.

Making a Difference in the Community

Congregational United Church of Christ

202 East Main

Haven, KS  67543

Pioneers met in the Haven School House located near the southeast edge of the present city limits, November 3, 1883, for the purpose of organizing a Congregational Church.  In the 130 years since, our church has survived economic crashes and down-turns, world wars, fires and tragedies.  Through it all, we have always been involved in the community of Haven.

Many years ago, a Haven Fall Festival was being planned, and our church was also involved, with members on the planning committee and ideas for what our church could do the day of the Festival.  We decided on a sloppy joe lunch, for the community and visitors, as a fund raising project.  This lunch has continued today and is the only fund raising project we have for the year.  Everyone, who is able, in our church, is involved.  Some people donate food staples, some prepare the sloppy joe mixture, others make pies, and most people work the day of the Festival. We also have a drawing on a quilt made by the quilters in our church.  The funds help us support our mission projects in the community and through the United Church of Christ.

Our church also sponsors a Red Cross Blood drive in the area, and many members volunteer to help on the appointed day.

Our present minister is Pastor Donovan Graber, who has served our church since 2011.

HOW IS YOUR CHURCH MAKING A DIFFERENCE ?
MARK YOUR CALENDARS
Dates for Churches to be Featured in eNEWS

We have heard that churches feel disconnected; well here's an opportunity to learn about the ministry of sister congregations. It's a simple process as churches have been assigned a date to send in a paragraph or two about your congregation's ministry. You may feature a special event, a particular mission, anything that your church is doing well and you want to share. Connections can be built, and the opportunity is here, you have to accept the invitation to participate! Your stories will encourage and inspire others; so share the good news!

The first date below is the date your church has been assigned and will be featured; the 2nd date the information needs to be submitted; send it early if you like! Send your information to kofocus@yahoo.com

If your assigned date has passed and your church still wishes to participate, send your article in and we'll use it at a later!
