-- Warm Clothing Outreach project
Each Spring, the Outreach Board encourages the congregation and friends to donate gently used warm clothing and blankets.
In the Fall, when thoughts turn toward school starting and colder weather approaching, the church displays the donations in garage sale fashion and charges a minimal amount for the items. We've found that people are more receptive when they can shop and get a great bargain than when they feel they are getting a handout; this method does not label anyone as being poor. The leftovers are retained to be included in our church's every-other-year full-scale yard sale.
Held in July, the larger yard sale offers the same minimal charge for donated items including clothing, toys, furniture, garden produce, etc. Everyone is blessed with God's presence (hearing the laughter, seeing all the bags of goodies going out the door) as we share in God's bounty. Leftovers from the yard sale are donated to other local help organizations.
